I am running an 800 in November. My PR is 2:18, but the weird thing is that I have run a 59 second 400 before. Does anyone have advice on how to get faster in terms of footspeed for a 200 or 400 time? Thanks.

Gonna be very hard to do this if you don't post your training, Hingle
Get a copy of one of Peter Coe's books
2:18 - you are a girl? I mean - a VERY slow girl??
Come on, Hingle, you know these things. Do 200 m repeats, weightroom work, etc. Not too hard to figure out.
Plus, I'm pretty sure most people here have run a 59 second 400 before. WHat does that have to do with anything? It clearly isn't your PR, as you would have run that twice in your 800. How is that fact that you've run a :59 before weird at all?
My nickname among my close friends and family is 'Concrete Feet.' It is a name I am looking to shed.

How old are you again? Did you run in HS? Why are you even on this site?

Short answer: Run More
Longer Answer - If you have 59s 400 speed their is no need to focus on speed for ripping out a faster 800. You've got enough speed to run 2:08-2:10. You're just lacking endurance.
With 59 and 2:18, I'm guess you probably run something like 5:20 in the mile and maybe 18 high/19 low at 5k. Focusing your endurance will help, as will just general 800 type workouts for getting comfortable at speed.
As far as speed, it really shouldn't be your priority for running a better 800...but pretty much the usual suspects: hill sprints, flying 30s, strides, and maybe some weight work/plyometrics. I've personally found fast 200's to help some, as generally if you are a distance guy you aren't going much sprint pace work and can get a little more efficient just by practicing at those quicker paces.

I think you misred. You don't have to run 59 twice to run 2:18. 2:18 would be back to back 69s.
I think his point is that he has much, much better 400 when compared to his 800

I am 24. I ran one season of cross country in HS, and then was going to run track but got kicked off the team before the first meet for hosting a party where there was underaged drinking at my house.

Oh, yeah I totally misread that. My b.
In that case, it still sin't weird. In my experience, a :56.7 guy runs a 2:08, a :51 guy runs a 1:51-3, and a :54-55 guy goes around 2 flat. When I could run :59 for a 400 my PR was right around 2:16, so he isn't an a magical 'weird' range at all.
AH, dude that really sucks. I mean, consequences are consequences and you deserve it, but that really, really sucks.

You think I deserved to get kicked off the team? I don't.
I mean, I technically did host it, and my parents were out of town, but the thing is, the rest of the team peer pressured me into hosting it and nothing happened to them. Also, the cops were never called, and it was never a law enforcement issue. Word spread though, and it got back to the coach.

Well, your 800 is due for a revision then. At least sub 2:15, and honestly you can probably go a bit faster than that

The 56.7 guy definitely can go faster. Somewhere around 2:02-2:03 is possible from that speed. Probably just doesn't have aerobic development yet. 56 is generally what you need as a minimum for sub 2, but if you are right at 56 then you better be running 4:20's and 15:30 or better. A typical HS probably does need, as you say, 54-55 speed for a sub 2
Hingle, you never sease to fascinate me.

Hingle, we have another nickname for you: "Dingleberry."

He meant "cease," so you are both dumb. Ozmatazz is dumb because he can't spell, and the spellanator is dumb because he does not know how words work.
Also, if I ran 2:18 as a 17 year old, and I have run 18:23 on the roads since then, and if I train really hard, what is the fastest I can get down to for 800?
Ask mo aman or david rudisha, I'm serious
Improve your endurance. Do 300m repeats at 49-50 sec with 100m slow jogs in between.
