What are you talking about? Maryland is a school that was so desperate for money they left the ACC - a conference they founded for the Big 10.
They recently had cut men's track.
Your own numbers show a profit of $500,000 for the year. So they are going to pay the athletes how much? $500 per football player.
You obviously missed the point:
Maryland showed a profit of $500,000 this year - WITHOUT any conference money. None. Zero. No ACC money, no Big 10 money.
They made $500,000 WITHOUT going to a major bowl game, WITHOUT making the NCAA men's basketball tournament.
They made $500,000 DESPITE paying a women's basketball coach over $1,000,000.
The money is there - it is just being used for other purposes.
Look, the NCAA men's basketball tournament will make $1 BILLION this year alone. Just the tournament - not the regular season. It is more profitable than the NFL Playoffs.
There are 68 teams playing in the tourney. 15 players per team = 1020 players in the tourney. That's nearly $1 million per player - just the tourney alone. Even using the most conservative estimate of a scholarship being worth $40,000/year, I'd say the players are getting a raw deal, no?
Coach K will make $7.2 million this year - which makes him the highest paid basketball coach in the country (and probably the world.) Higher than Gregg Popovich - by $1.2 million.
No way, no how. Remember, you called this "minor leagues" and yet a "minor league" coach is the highest paid coach in the world.
Its bull. It's a fraud perpetuated by overpriced, overpaid NCAA administrators to justify their own bloated budgets.
