This winter I decided to get my mile time down to help with my 5k/10k times outdoors. Having done a lot of mile specific work, I'm probably not in great 10k shape currently.
How should I go about transitioning back to higher mileage and 10k work?
Background info:
Last year, my senior year of HS, I ran a 4:30 full mile. Now I'm at 4:15. I'm definitely a longer distance guy. I lowered my mileage from ~75 average in cross to ~50 average while working on the mile.
In December after XC, I built to 65 a week with tempos/hill work until mid January. Held 65 for 6 weeks. Then I started lowering mileage and did more speed.
My other times include:
8:38 in 3k (with mile specific work)
25:11 in 8k (XC) (I was consistently sub 25:30)
I also ran a 14:56 5k before I started mile specific work w/ base training.
What should I start doing from here? Anyone else follow this approach?
