Attempting to run a fast indoor 5K on the 8th. I have to this point only run mileage since I returned from an achilles injury. My last couple weeks have seen me go over 70 mpw for the first time. This week will be 77 when I run 14 tomorrow. I haven't done any real fast work except some loner easy tempos well within my limits. I might run 8 miles averaging 6:15 or so outside a few times a week but I don't consider that a real workout. On the advice of a coach from a very we'll know hs powerhouse, I've just focused on getting fast over the course of any run every day, except for my 3-4 mile double day morning runs which I do 5 days a week. I'm looking to run 15:12 or better for this race to qualify for a specific meet. I'm not planning on cutting back on effort or mileage too much this week, but I need advice on what to do as far a quality run on Tuesday. I was thinking intervals including something somewhat fast so that the 5K pace doesn't feel like flatlining. Then maybe a moderately long run on Wednesday (10 miles?) and easy the next two days. That would leave me with still above 70 mpw but somewhat more fresh? Thoughts appreciated.
