David Torrence going for American record, Nate Brannen for Canadian in 1k at BU on Sunday night (3/2)

The record is soft, it should be close to 2 seconds faster. David needs to hit the 800 in 1:48 and hang on for a 29x 200m...David can do it. Every attempt at the record people came through the 800 too slow because it is down right scary running an 800 practically all out and having to run another 200m. As with any record, first of all you have to be capable, secondly you have to have the confidence to truly go after it.

well said. I think Torrence will just miss out on the record.

Most everyone TRIES to run a 1000M as an 800 and kicking in, when it is an 800 and "holding on" event, when trying to really fast times.

You have to be under or at 1:49 flat for sure to get this mark I would think.

I know Nova and Gtown are trying to run DMR Q'ers as well.

The NJ/NY team is not sending anyone to the meet, so that means no Mike Rutt. It meet be a very small 1000 field.

Why isn't letsrun calling these guys out for not going for the AR at a televised meet?? They complained about Salazar's guys doing this for weeks.

Is there a televised indoor meet in the US this weekend that Torrence could make this attempt at?

Who cares - there wasn't one with a 2mile or 5k when Rupp went for his records... didn't stop the Brojos from piling on.

There was a 1000 televised only a few weeks ago.

To be clear - I think torrence is doing the right thing here, I am just pointing out the brojo's anti-rupp bias.

I think the point, is that Galen had two US-televised meets that he could have attempted records at, as well as other European Meets that have a higher profile. He ended up running just 1 televised meet, and it was not a record attempt, and he DNF-ed.

Torrence ran three races, which were all televised. Sainsbury's meet in Glasgow (1500, tactical), New Balance Grand Prix (4x8 WR attempt), NYRR Millrose (2k AR attempt).

Take what you want from that info, but you can see how Rupp may be seen to be running in obscurity.

There were 3 US indoor meets on TV this season - NBIG, Millrose, and USAs. Torrence already ran at all 3.

What televised meet do you suggest he run the 1k at? Because there aren't any more in the US and I doubt they would let him put on an exhibition in Sopot.

Moron, they were critical of him going for the mile AR at BU when the NBIGP was being broadcast on the same day in the day. I repreat, moron.

I think he has the ability.

To paraphrase my coach, most people run the 1000 like a short 1500, when they should be running it like a long 800!

For the record, Peters ran a 3.56 mile last indoors and a 3.37 outdoors.
