Running is meant to be a no-contact sport. That's just the way it is. We run races to see who comes out fastest. Not to see who comes out fastest after multiple people have been stepped on, shoved, pushed off the track, etc. If you want to see people pounding each other, tune into MMA or something.
Well said, Hasay got stepped on shoved as well as many of the other racers.
Track racing is a contact sport and not just in track and field.
Try and cut in on me and you'll get an elbow in the ribs.

No, track is not a contact sport. Just because you like to elbow people doesn't change this.

No, you said Rupp should be DQ'd. I disagree. If Rupp was cut off, there's nothing wrong with a push.
BTW, I previously posted that I didn't think there should be a DQ in the women's race either.
Steve Ovett was a master at it and no-one ever said he didn't deserve his medals.

Well paradigms do shift, but my interpretation of racing is, don't impede on others, but protect your space if others try to impede on you. If you impede on others you are subject to DQ. Isn't that what most of you learned?
If you let the pace go that slow, you're asking for it.

Don't forget she was also DQed and before being re-instated 2 years ago at USA (Olympic Trials) as well.
Thanks for mentioning this. I vaguely recalled that there was another incident with her, but I couldn't remember exactly when/where. Anyone recall the details of this? Definitely seems to be a pattern.

That's pretty much what I meant. I'd never deliberately trip anyone but watch Ovett anyway (race starts a minute in).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKLnHk7UHjYRuth, at the point Hasay and Rowbury were fouled, they were running clear of the pack, Grunewald ran up their asses as if she were blind.
She had plenty of room to pass them cleanly.
I don't know whether she runs dirty, or whether she is just not that bright.
For the earlier, in pack contact, you have a point.
Running up another runners azz when you have a clear lane to pass them is not within the spirit of the sport...it doesn't matter who the athlete is, Grunewald ran into these women when she had a clear lane to pass on each time. It was as if she couldn't see them. Weird.
OK girl who has raced Gabe "multiple times over the years". So Gabe has NEVER been Dq'ed from a race , not in 2012 at the Trials, as you correctly pointed out. So when has she EVER been Dq'ed then? And by you saying…." and we all know she initiates contact…" you've lost what little credibility you had. We ALL don't know. As a matter of fact, NO ONE knows.[quote]racergirl wrote:
I don't know if racergirl has been in the races she claims but i'd bet she has.. Everyone on the circuit knows Gabe is an extremely dirty racer. The athletes i've interacted with say it's even worse (and more frequent) in the pack than it appears to us spectating, and if you watch her closely for an entire race replay, that is pretty bad.
I didn't see the race today, so won't speak to it, but can say that if justice was served as it should have been from past fouls then maybe she'd learn a lesson.

Maybe the earlier elbows were due to slow pace, but the way she ran through Hasay's legs had nothing to do with slow early pace, it was as if her mind wasn't in her head or she simply has no spatial intelligence. I mean it looked absolutely weird and if you only saw the 2 second clip of it happening from behind you probably would have thought it was intended to take Hasay down. It wasn't of course which is what makes it more strange. I think had Hasay gone down, which she easily could have, people would see this a little more clearly.
People need to rewatch this.
It's not really clear to me what the problem is. There clearly was some contact during the race and were I anyone other than Gabe I would want that my coach request the judges take a second look at it (AKA file a protest).
Then, Gabe either gets DQ'd or not . . . entirely up to the judges. If Gabe doesn't want to incite the extra attention then she shouldn't have super-obvious contact with people. Any people. Elbows being thrown in the pack is one thing (and harder to decipher), but the contact with Hasay and Rowbury could not have been more obvious or (seemingly) unnecessary (there's a person in front of you, no one next to you and you need to make contact?).
I'm not team Salazar by any stretch, but this just seems like the move any good coach would make- particularly since it would give Rowbury the title and as Vaughn apparently doesn't have the time standard, would give Hasay a ticket to worlds.
Finally, in the Letsrun twitter post it drops that Grunewald is a cancer survivor. That's amazing, but that doesn't have ANYTHING to do with whether she screwed up in this race or not.
So when does USATF make a determination on the protest against Gabe?
The suspense is killing me!

It's not like Hasay has anything to gain from this move either; she'll move from fourth to third.
Incorrect. Sara Vaughn didn't have the Qorlds time but it's a moot point as Grunewald wasn't DQd.
I was corrected earlier.

Yeah, but without mention of the Qorlds time.
So a file has been protesting was denied?
