My theory has always been that people with intrinsically high metabolisms don't perform well in the heat- esentially overheating themselves- whereas people with slightly lower metabolism set-points perform better in the heat.

It does seem sweating is not the whole answer. It might be that people freak out and they get stressed and make it worse. I freak out a bit in cold weather before I warm up enough as it takes me quite a while to get comfortable.
I don't think high metabolism is really it either because I am high strung and run much better in heat than those faster than me in regular weather.
I seem to heat up very quickly, thus necessitating me to shed layers even in very cold temperatures. I sweat profusely in the summer but that doesn't seem to help one iota.
