Anyone planning to get a pair?
Anyone planning to get a pair?
Other than the 890 v3, 1600, 500, and MT110, I will have nothing to do with NB until they clean their design house. The trash that they have been producing recently is disgusting.
They've regressed to manufacturing clodhoppers.
The 980 Fresh Foam shoe from to New Balance is one awesome shoe! I've been wearing a pair since September and they still feel like the day I put them on, I absolutely love them! To redux, New Balance is producing trash? I don't know what your talking about! I've been wearing NB shoes for 35 years and the shoes and designs they have come out with in the last couple of years in my opinion the best ever! If you like the 890v3 try the new 890v4, that is one fantastic shoe! :-)
I did try the v4 and was hoping they would be an improvement, but I was unhappy with the updates NB made to the platform. Best wishes.
Not a huge fan of the 980s. I usually run in Pegasus and find that the 980s are substantially more marshmallow-y. Combined with the 4mm heel drop, not a winner in my book.
Get a more responsive shoe and go with the 890s.
Bump.
Any reviews on this?
On the 980's: nice simple upper and overall fit. I like the 4mm drop on a highly cushioned shoe. However, I don't feel that the Fresh Foam is anything uber-good-must-have. I'll get a pair or two when they're on clearance.

Hey Dick, I did a 150 mile week in New Balance 730's in
June, 1982.
Thanks for posting.

I tried on a pair of 980s following Beardsley's suggestion; I've been running in the 890s for two years, but they aren't quite enough shoe for longer runs. So far, the 980s have proved to be great. My legs are a lot less beat up after running, say, 75 minutes. And they are great for faster running on the road as well.

I have a pair in resplendent white. Decent shoe but I had to switch out the insoles for a pair of Dr. Scholl's active series. Very comfortable up to about 8 miles. You could probably get away with racing a 10 miler in them but they seem destined to be my speed session shoes.
And they're a 6mm drop not a 4 (I formerly wore the ionix 3090 original and version 2; those are definitely a 4mm and the 980s ride a bit higher.)
These are good . I will buy another pair
