Does anyone have any strong opinions about the Cleveland Marathon?
I ran it last year, wife ran it each of the two years prior to that.
The course is fine enough, not particularly hilly nor is it particularly scenic. The real issue is the weather. The temp last year was around 65F with dew point near that as well, and I was soaked with sweat after just two miles. I do not do well in the humidity.
The year prior to that was even worse, with temperatures getting near 80 or over with high humidity.
Three years ago it was an absolute downpour (better than the heat if you ask me).
If you need a May marathon Pittsburgh might be a better choice. It's a few weeks earlier and assuming you were driving to Cleveland, shouldn't be too far out of the way.
I appreciate it. Thanks.
I've run the half there for the past five years. It is a well organized race with nice crowd support. Starts right outside the Browns stadium, and the entire stadium is open for bathroom usage prior to the race. The weather in late May has been cooperative recently. Last year it was around 75 degrees, almost too hot for a race, but in Cleveland I'll take it over the alternative.
The half and full run the same course through 12 miles. It is a flat fast course through some cool neighborhoods. I heard the full marathon course gets a little desolate and boring for a few miles on MLK Blvd though.
I ran the Cleveland Marathon 3 years when it was cold and raining which was fine with me -- I would prefer the cold and rain over heat and humidity. I would suggest that you look the Glass City Marathon in Toledo and the end of April. I have ran it 3 times and the weather has been good each time. It is a flat course (not too scenic) and well organized. It is also inexpensive and the marathon never fills up so you register almost up to race day.
Thanks for the feedback.
