I was at that meet. My teammates even talked to Cain since some raced her in hs school and she said this was just a workout for her. So you can examine it all you want but there's no more importance behind her "races" yesterday than getting some harder effort in.
Why can't they save workouts for workouts and actually race during races?

Equivalent to a 2.09? Not that great really, but I wonder what she is focusing on? Unless it is making it to world indoors. She is no longer a Junior and there isn't an outdoor worlds and she can't do NCAA either.
Maybe investing a year in just some good solid training, with no real 800m race goals will be good to get ready for 2015 and 2016. Working on her other events (1500m for endurance and 400m for speed) might be good to do as well.
I find it quite unfortunate that they didn't think it would be nice to start her pro career with a win or a race in which she specializes.
She ran the 800 after and won that.
i was at the meet and complimented her on her good workout. she replied "thank you very much" it was blatantly obvious that she was not racing and was doing a workout because she was looking at her watch basically every 100 on the 500. and in the 800 dropped the pace slightly after each 200.
shes obviously using something like this to get in a really hard effort that isnt as easy to get in on her own.

Interesting.
Thanks for your account.
She bounced back nicely to win the 800 so I guess she is 1-1 as a pro.

Ajee won by 7 or 8 seconds I think I saw so it's not like either she or Cain were pushed in either of their races (800 for Cain).
Likely also a workout for Ajee to try to get rid of some of the rust.
Running a 2:08 isn't that much of a workout.
The 500 and 800 together at that pace make a good workout for her, and AlSal often has his athletes continue the workout after a meet, but I have no idea if he did this for Mary Cain.

Wilson needs aerobic work, hence the 1000. She is and remains a Junior until May 08. She is entered in the 800 at the Millrose, as is Cain.

Why would you bring up Alan Webb?
Alan Webb was a great racer, comfortable in packs or leading the race. You obviously didn't grow up watching Webb's career at this point compared to Cain.
Webb's SR year of high school he ran 3:53 at the Pre Mile in a pack, high-race setting. I don't believe he ever lost a track mile after his junior year. The dude didn't lose.
You obviously didn't watch Webb race much. Most of his best high school performances were anchoring high school relays or workouts. His best two miles--both his sub-4s--were races that he didn't even try to win.
Webb was a great time trialist but never a great racer.

About 30 minutes between races so I doubt we saw anything but a form workout. Remembering to use your now new mechanics in the race setting, covering surges, avoiding slowing runners, having some elbows wacking yours blah blah is not a given.

Preparation and practice for a race day, both mental and physical.
Cain has nice muscular thighs. Definitely has been working on her strength.

Technically this is ephebophilia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EphebophiliaDuring her post race interview Cain talks about trying to land on her mid foot. See T&F News Feb 14 issue center photo page 36 & 37 where she is clearly landing on her heels. Reminds me of Ritz Talking about forefoot landing but all photos of him show him landing on his heel.
Come on, Mary. Midfoot striking. Shorten your stride. You overstriders are driving me crazy.
Ten years from now Cain will look back and realize how much Alberto did not know about mid-d.
In this case, Salazar's right. While it's very dangerous to mess with anyone's form, particularly someone as successful as Cain is, because form is produced by a set of many different muscles working together and trained through many years of running (hence, you can't just make minor or major adjustments and have the muscles in balance for that new stride), Cain is still young and her form was very awkward in comparison with her competitors. Just take a look at the same thing Salazar saw before he started coaching her, the junior or youth 1500m final in 2011, and compare her awkward form to the winner's incredible efficiency (the winner, Faith Kipyegon, went on to run 3:56 last year).

Kipyegon is a beautiful runner...she went on to run a 3:56 1500M, I think only Aregawi ran a faster time last year.
I would like to know what Salazar would do with Jessica Judd's form. LOL
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
