Does running in snowshoes really make you slow and heavy legged? I got some running snowshoes for Christmas and have enjoyed going out on them but my high school coach said he does not want me to use them because they make you slow. Thanks.

Advice for later in life ... you will learn when to keep you mouth shut. ;-)
Perhaps his concern was the slow turnover and you getting comfortable with it? Anyway, snowshoe running is tough and really gives the quads a good workout. I used to break a sweat just trying to walk in deep powder with them.
No, they don't make you slow. One year for indoor track I had class when my team would go use another college's indoor track for speed work. I did all my workouts on snowshoes and had my best track season. Obviously other things went into that, but they certainly didn't hurt.
