Hi, I'm a 47 year old female runner and started taking my jogging seriously about six months ago. I was really sick for two years and got well and decided running would help. At first things were really slow going but I had my first long run of 10 miles about 3 weeks ago (I gradually built to this). I run approximately 22-26 miles per week on a good week. I try to get in 5 days a week of running but 4 is the average for now. Oh yeah, and for two months I ran on a treadmill for an hour a day for 5 days a week during that time until I was able to run back outside in which I cut my minutes way back and ran less days. After the two months of running on the treadmill I ran in a five mile race placing third in my age group with a time of 48:00 flat. That was in October. I trained for two more months and ran my second 5 miler on December 7th and ran my 5 miler in 40:56 and placed second in my age group. Here's the deal! I'm really excited about my progress and I just LOVE running! I just don't understand why my joints hurt so much!!! I rarely get a break from the pain! Some days are better than others but I would really like some relief. After I race you can forget me jogging for approximately two days because of the joint pain. Is there anything I can do to help this?!?! I take vitamins and joint supplements most of the time but it does not seem to help. Any suggestions for me? I really would like to add a little more mileage in the future if I can! Thanks!!! :)
