Where's Felipe?
Felipe might be hurt. Schwartz will get dominated by team Africa, and Mulcahy in the 800. I can see the same result in the 1500m. Clark has been hurt? Same with Cohen. Hopkins should get an easy win if he's fresh, with guys like Remillard and Messina gunning for the medals. 10k is interesting. Messina was definitely the favorite, but Marcantonio with the card… he was unstoppable at that distance last year. Steeple, Remillard went 9:45 two years ago and has only won Sunyac titles since then. Shartrand has the fastest PR of the field, and freshman are notoriously unreliable to do anything in the conference (besides Yanez).
Guys 10k was won by the wild card Nick Marcantonio. Nothing unexpected from this race. Weird that this was his first race this season. But good to see him back racing after a long winter break.
Steeple was another wild card winner with Remillard taking the title. Only a couple of falls to note. Luckily the steeple pit was filled with water. No gold fish or alligators were added this year to the water.
Mulcahy crushed everyone in the 1500m. Looks to be a real deal in the 1500m but looked tired in the 800m. Ngabo looked side to side about 50 times in the last 100 meters, worried about which side Mulcahy would pass him.
Everyone who doubled back from the 15 struggled in the 8. Maybe Bumkoth could have won this if he was fresh? But it doesn't matter as his teammate had it covered anyone. Becker also wins the most interesting hat award.
The 5k was the most intriguing race of the day. Inside sources say that there were guys in the race trying to pull a Ryan Hall Boston 2014 slow down the pack move. Only Three guys were able to break away from the pack and by the time the runners realized they were running 82's everyone in the pack was just running for 4th place. Excellent battle between Hopkins and Wortner to end it. I guess I should include that a lot of the guys were doubling/tripling back from other races.
Oswego ran 3:18...what is happening to the sunyac
no one could pull off the 10k 5k double or 15 8 double????
Really not that surprising. 5k/10k double is tough.
Matt Waganhouser of OSWEGO no less, just ran 1:50 in an 800....has he even run one before, and WTF is going on at oswego, I can no longer make jokes about them after their xc and track seasons.
Pretty sick race watching him destroy the Guarino guy in the final 150 meters yesterday. I think he was a 400 m runner before this, maybe a 48 second PR? So yes, looks like a tilt in the right direction for their team.
And Ngabo also ran 1:50 at the Gator Invite on Friday. It's nice to have two SUNYAC guys running that fast in the 8 this year.
The real question is why was Ben Sweet of Oswego making fun of Oswego in the first place? You should probably hide your email address before posting things like that.
just an ol' alum- living in the past haha. Still amazing the improvement though.
