I tried to post this earlier but I don't see it.
Props to Abbey for the win.
She went out and executed. Substance over hype. Anyone else think like me she'll be the next great American woman?

I think she will have a good shot at Molly's 5000 record in the next couple years.

Last year she was a little vulnerable in the stamina department, more of a miler/5K type with a blistering track kick. She now has all of the elements of an all-around great.
Gotta give it up for Emma Bates too, quite a great season, only losing to Abbey and Alexa.
I'm looking forward to watching her pro career.

Nothing she did suggests she's improved her stamina.
Betsy Saina was a 31:15 10k runner the spring before last years NCAA's, Abbey wasn't that good, so she lost...and barely. This year she didn't have someone like Saina, so she won. If anything she looked weaker than last year. The two girls who pushed her paled in comparison to Saina...beating bates and Avery by a few seconds doesn't scream I've improved my stamina....bates was what? A 15:59/3337 girl last year? Avery was nowhere near Saina either but faster than bates.
So let's not go making bizarre claims...Abbey is awesome but will have a tall order to run faster than last year. Not saying she won't, but this race was not a ringing endorsement. It was a win by a superior athlete...that's it.
I've been saying this for years, ever since she pulled off that 3rd in the 2011 cross champs. The progress she made for being an unheralded high school runner is amazing.
Also, I picked her to quality for the 2012 Olympics. Almost did.
Yea, I'm awesome at making predictions.
Abbey flirted with a spot on the Oly team. Last summer she was supposed to be a lock for the World team and was said to be in AR fitness by her coach.
Truly a talented runner, but the professional and NCAA scenes are not the same thing. Proof will being the pudding.
The conditions hint to me that she is more solid and adaptable now.As a true miler, the mud and wind destroy all of your advantages. Just ask O'Hare on the men's side. Running confidently as she did is much more than "nothing".You *may* be right, as the field was weaker this year. Coogan knows what he's doing and we'll see the results this spring I've little doubt.

What makes her a "true" miler? She went 15:11 last year winning in the spring...ran the 5k at NCAA's (and won) and nats taking 6th. She's a great 1500/miler but hard to argue she's any more a miler than a 5k runner which seems to be the coaches feeling as well.
Also many would argue the wind impacts the lighter non-miler types more(such as the announcer did during the race)....so that's an odd statement to make.
I agree Coogan knows what he's doing. Just saying 15:11 is already a huge feat. I didn't see a girl running who looks like she's taken the next steps....not to say she can't or won't in the future. Just expected more dominance IF she had improved upon last year.
Not sure if this race was a good judge of where she's at — with those conditions, it would have been risky to take it from the gun and try to win by a large margin. I do think that she could win Nationals by 20 seconds, going from the gun. But why risk it? She got the win and that's what counts.
More indicative is improvements of around 20 seconds on every other course she's run this year.
I can see her running sub-15 in the spring and taking a shot at Huddle's record in a couple of years.

I though Edward Cheserek was the next great American. Or maybe it was Bernard Lagat. Oh, wait...
She still needs to prove herself on the national (senior level) and international stage. Her senior year here will be a huge learning experience, as you can bet she'll run some big indoor and outdoor track races before NCAAs and then take her first major shot at a summer track season. I think she'll smash the AR at 5k, continue to prove herself elite and become the best American 5k and 10k runner, but she still has steps to take.
she got a nice ash and all but her running aint really going no where
she is a poor woman's Jordan Hasay. Jordan is light years above her. Abbey is good collegiate - Jordan is the best

I can't tell if this is a joke or not

Did you watch the frigging race? She ran to win, not to see how much she could crush the field by just to satisfy Internet dorks. That's what you do when you're the prohibitive favorite and the conditions suck. Yeah, she won by "only" three seconds but she gained them with striking ease.
My opinion is she will follow the path of every talented young U.S. woman before her. Unless she hooks up with the high profile PED-induced training group in the west, she will do things different than what got her her to her current level. This includes a huge increase in miles, a big change (+ or -) in numbers of races, etc. She will level and continue to be good, but never great. I hope I am wrong and that she and her coach stay the course of what got her there and she continues to progress without the inevitable jump to the dark side.

This must be sarcasm since within the past year Abbey beat Jordan for 2 National titles.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
