People bitch about Eugene getting to host the trials or NCAA outdoor's too often, but Terre Haute has had the NCAA XC, what for most of decade or more?
It's time to move that race around.
Stanford would be an awesome host.
Anyway, wishing everyone their best race tomorrow, and that Ducks thrive in wet environments / puddles.
Oh Gosh We Can't Have Slow Times in Cross Country
Can't they put out some kitty litter, or squeegee the puddles?

"It's cross-country, woe to him who hasn't threaded the needle with the lead pack."
Manfred Steffny, Slogging Through Belgium.
When courses are like this, it doesn't necessarily show who the best athletes are but the best competitors.

Are you saying that is a good thing or a bad thing. As long as it is fast enough to still look more like an XC race than a tough mudder, a challenging course is good.

No, it shows who the best cross country runners are. A flat, smooth course like many of them are, don't mean as much. I am glad it is muddy and bad weather; may the best cross country runner win.

It's raining and muddy for everyone. It's cold for everyone.
I agree that it shows who the best competitors are.
No excuses- just run.
28 here right now
Crosswind for start and finish stretch
Wind at least 20-25 mph
Coldest since 2000 in Ames?
I have run many XC races in the 19-24 degree range, with snowfall. Big effing deal, go run. Most of them are being given large scholarships to run.
It is sunny out.
I,m going with 31:22 as the winning time
16 degree windchill right now
I'll be sitting in my nice warm car eating square donuts until right before the start.
they shorting the course by a 110 meters

Does that mean a fast first mile?
That's idiotic
Maybe they can reroute them through some weeds on the other end to make up for it.
I think that a muddy course will benefit the larger strength runners. It will be interesting to see who pops into the top 40 that were not expected to be there. Good luck runners!
Colorado for the team win!

The challenging course conditions seem to favor a strength oriented team that trains at altitude. I think that their fear is an insanely fast early pace which they have trouble duplicating in practice. The odds of such a race is now remote and it will likely become a strength, late racing affair which favors CU.
