DNFed today at the US 12K Champs. Me thinks Nike is going to be putting him on gear only contract. He's best shot to ressurect his career is to give the marathon a shot. No way does he ever make a US 5K or 10K team again.

Yes. He's a great guy, but he destroyed himself by running too hard in the 2010 season. He'll never make another WC or Olympic team.
Yes

Not being mean to Chris, but if the 10k at Stanford is the best we get from him, that will be fine. It was amazing.
if you could have one season when you break the american record in the 10k and then never return to form, would you take it? i know i would. for that reason, saying he trained too hard in 2010 doesn't make sense to me. he flew too high on wings of pastrami.
sad but true. wrote:

No. I'd rather having a long career of continuous success. Solinsky chose the worst year to peak. Why would he kill himself in a non-championship year? Solinsky and Wheating ruined their careers in 2010.

If you want to sound smart with this kind of advice, say it in 2010 not 2013. Anyone can figure this out in 3 years hindsight.

Why would you peak in may and time trial for three months? Why would someone kill themselves in a non-championship year? You don't need hindsight to see that's stupid. Solinsky put all his cards on the table in 2010. It was obvious by 2011 when he got injured after nationals he wouldn't be the same.

Unless you can link back to where you said this in 2010, you did, in fact, only see this in hindsight.
I know he has an almost cult like loyalty to Schumacher, but it is time for a coaching change.
Idiots. Chris injured himself when he fell down the stairs.
Chris is one of those guys that's track times do not translate to the roads. There are plenty of those kind of guys.
Any recommendation that involves him moving to the roads is ignorant.
I know that it seems like he should but he can't run the roads.

CULT LIKE LOYALTY is mandatory for success in running. Show me a runner that doesn't have confidence in what he/she is doing and I will show you a failure.
Yes, Chris isn't to blame for his recent struggles. His pooch was the culprit: he tripped over the dog when walking down the stairs and destroyed his leg.
