It's under the world record, but it isn't allowed because it's slightly downhill, right? Also, Haile also ran 1:01:14 in Wien this year, 4 days before his 40th birthday.

The start and finish are also separated by more than 50% of the race distance.
Gebs age graded is even more impressive as he was likely in his 20s in his "junior" career like Aman now, must be at least 45 now... bet he regrets the early years of lying now, he could have been running sub 60 when he was really 40...
agree
it's a pity he can't do speedwork now because of injury risk
he may have been closer
it's amazing he ran with them...he's like 15 years older
prob about 45 yrs
We should all be happy for Haile, coming back with a great performance like that - I'm pretty sure he secured his place among appearance money runners (should he still want it) for another bunch of years to come over the distance.
Obviously he's also able to pace Kenny at least halvway for a WR attempt at the Marathon - maybe the old rivalry between them will prevent such a thing from ever happen, but seeing the Kenyans have already taken his WR away from his I don't hold it for impossible; "Let's work together to get it back to Ethiopia, are you with me? - Yeah, OK..."
Bekele at 31 y.o and Farah at 30 y.o are no spring chickens either...

Take at least a decade of development to run really well at 10k and above.. They got several years of racing left in them.

They may be a year or two past their "physical peak" but let's be real.. Geb is at least 40. Add on another 10 years to how old Bekele & Farah are and there you go. In terms of longevity, Geb is the GOAT without a doubt, and in my opinion he is the best distance runner ever, period. I hope that Bekele will be able to do the same thing for the next 10-15 years.

According to the documents I read, Haile is at least 61. Born in 1951.
He is more likely closer to Whitlock's age.
Since ALL of the Africans age-cheat anyway (according to LRC) then Lagat must also be close to 45 as well, since his birth year is listed as 1974, and Geb's at 1973. Geez the Aficans run well into their 40's - no way that is possible unless they are all on PED's. Obviously if you are prepared to age-cheat then it logically follows that you will also be on PED's.
A phenomenal performance from Geb, and he made the race, pushing the pace the whole way to 12M. He has far more guts than Farah and Bekele combined. The greatest ever.
HG was indeed jogging. He could have gone 10 sec faster and with speed work a full minute faster. He would have dropped
KB and MF up the hills.

he was amazing. But he does like to front run or share the lead. so while he "had" to do the work to keep the pace honest, I think he prefers it that way. In the last 5-7 years, when people start dropping him, he seems to feel the pressure/strain more than if he is leading. So it worked out for everyone really.
(if the leader is a true pacemaker he knows will drop out, he minds following less)

1. In Gebs and Lagats case I wouldn't call it "cheat". They grew up in rural East Africa near the equator where they don't really have seasons so the concept of "years" is not that obvious as it is to us.
2. Running well (as in close to 95% of heir capabilities) in the late 30's or even up to 40 is mostly a function of staying motivated and injury free.
yes, but HG is truly phenomenal since he is probably 45 or even 48?.

Bekele was running them pretty well 10 yrs ago
I realize that Geb's strategy since he lost his ability to do speedwork has been to push the pace, but in general he has always had the courage to take risks in order to get world records and that is how he has dozens of them. Bekele did it twice outdoors and Farah has none.
i enjoyed the race ..i'm wondering are geb and bekele set for a renaissance
maybe hermens has got hold of this new sauce that's doing the rounds?
