Ha, ha. No, but lane one is Jeff Galloway. Long curly hair in the middle is Mark Covert, first finisher in Nike Moon Shoes, and famous for his consecutive streak of running (author, Never Missed). Lee Fidler, Boone N.C. closest to camera, Dave White and Doug Schmenk in gold singlets. Not sure who the other folks are.

Was he already taking walking breaks in this race?
The 1972 Olympic TrialsMarathon was run with the track trials and on the last day. We finished right before the 5,000 meters. Here is a photo of the race, with Pre and Lindgren leading. I am in the background, black shirt just behind Pre’s head.
Thanks, interesting period in the sport, and to be only 21 at the time was priceless. Simpler time, the marathoners were largely hanging out in the infield, steeplechase pit during the 5,000 meters. The last 1200 meters was epic at the time with Pre cranking a 3:00-ish to drop George Young.
As pertains the photo you linked to and walking back to the starting line, some might find it appropriate how you were seemingly headed against the tide even then. (j/k).
Thanks for sharing and those are some accomplishments!
Sally, yes I did. Since I was original owner, received service and extended warranty. With 21 years and 129k coverage long gone. We got the car back today $4,700 + another $500 for rear engine mount; came with 3 year and 36k warranty. We’ll keep it a year or two now.
