Yes I was fully invested and with everything going higher I didn’t want to sell. I didn’ t have $70,000 in cash and my investments were outperforming the loan I got at 2.875% interest (excellent credit).

My son has no debt of any kind. He makes more than you and your leech son put together.
You’re paying a loan on a house that doesn’t even have a basement?
...maybe we could keep this a bit civil?
seattle,
It is a long story. Prior to the Cayman I have owned three cars all bought new and on loans: 1972 Datsun 510 station wagon, 1981 VW Diesel Truck, 1999 Ford Ranger Pick-Up. I gave the Ford Pick-Up to my son when he went to Georgia Tech for graduate school. At that time we were caregivers to my father-in-law who moved to Idaho from Southern California. So I drove my wife’s car, while she drove his 2001 Buick La Sabre (he was 87 at the time and would get lost in Boise). Anyway we inherited the car at his death and I drove it for six years. By 2016 I started looking for a replacement vehicle. My wife actually encouraged me to get what I wanted. Looked at pre-owned and even 10 year old Caymans averaged around $30,000. If I bought new the interest rates were a couple percent lower. So I did, my wife’s name is the same as the car but spelled Portia (sound familiar). I considered vanity plates for the same but the family voted against it. The most extravagant purchase in my life, but I will am working until age 70, so why not?
Thanks and hope you are well.

Here’s the problem: Igy comes on here and lectures everyone about the market all while he’s up to his ears in debt trying to project a status that is a lie. And he’s a financial planner! But if you dare disagree with him, he will throw insults at you. And that’s not even touching his numerous lies and misrepresentations. The guy is a joke.

Seattle,
Both really. Owned two houses before the current one. Sold both, could have paid this one off after selling the other two, but paid off $60,000+ in daughter’s law school loans (University of Washington) and $14,000 in son’s undergraduate student loans. Son had a full graduate scholarship research assistantaship in mechanical engineering at Georgia Tech. So paid down most of what I borrowed for the so with the low interest most of my payments go to principal. Save $50k a year. Been buying CDs mostly. Contribute to my 401k and wife’s IRA. Roll my contribution annually from 401k to IRA. Been buying CDs in joint account as well, even a three month is above 2%.
How about you?

Yes, I spent 19 years as a college teacher and coach in a minority community serving others. Many times we lived paycheck to paycheck.
