Not Cabral
Gotta go with cabral. I feel like it's more important to have a real distance partner vs 800m guys. Robby will have guys to crank out quicker stuff with him (eg. 3:35 Merber)

Also, I think Andrews considers himself a 1500 m guy now.
NJNY has to be one of, if not THE best collective 800m groups in the country with Rutt, Andrews, Brown, and Gagnon. (NJNY DMR at Penn Relays???)
Cabral will probably be working out alone for steeple specific sessions, but honestly where else could he have gone? I bet Schumacher isn't taking any more guys with an already overfull house. Salazar doesn't bother with the steeple. He could join the Indiana guys group, but they're all below Cabral's level and not enough motive to move to the middle of the country IMO. He had a lot of success with more of a 1500/steeple focus versus a 5k/steeple focus, so from that vantage point he'll be set for his non-steeple specific stuff. He was working out mostly alone the whole year prior to the Olympics and that worked out fine.
Cabral can run with Mahoney, plus Princeton is nearby. I'm sure he has other people to run with in the NYC area.
It's amazing how the overall point you make is good without one of your reasons being accurate. Impressive.
Cabral got sick, Andrews got Brain sprain.
Andrews is so immature haha. He still seems like a kid compared to some of these guys.
Where else could either go that would be better?
Andrews is Adidas so can't go to Nike group.
Cabral can go to Nike group, but Salazar isn't into steeple and Rowland's for some strange reason doesn't have one. Going to train with Evan isn't exactly a guarantee as Huling hasn't come close to his 8:14 PB and completely bombed at Worlds (again).
Would have liked to see Andrews go anywhere >100 miles from Manalapan.
Would have liked to see Cabral either with Salazar (you're telling me you don't think Alberto would like to one-up schumacher?), or Robert Gary (with Cory Leslie). OTC, even without a great steeple partner would have incredible resources and plenty of distance guys to do 90% of his workouts with. Even Indiana Elite would have been a better choice.
Andrews needs to go back to Charlottesville. The UVA girls are so hot.

this. Mahoney might not yet be an international caliber steepler, but he's still good enough for Cabral to train with. there's not many steeplers of Cabral's caliber in the US, but Mahoney is good enough, and people forget that. He'll be a respectable force on a national scale soon. On an international scale, probably not. But unless Cabral is training with Jager, Mahoney is one the next tier below them, so it's not like he has no one to train with.
Mahoney is NOT on 2nd tier.
Jager way out in front
Huling, Cabral, Leslie, Turner
Poore, Forys, Cowart
Many 8:30-40 steeples including Mahoney
I never said he was on the 2nd tier - I said he was a tier below Jager & Co. He's able to compete on a national level, and not internationally. And he's not below Poore, Forys, or Cowart in any way. Mahoney's PR is 8:30.87, and at the time of US champs, he had the 7th best time in the US. Certainly not an international caliber time, but Mahoney is a very very young guy with a lot of upside, and he's gonna be a great training partner for Cabral.
Hey bro, we all admit Jager is on the 1st tier, the "one below" is indeed the 2nd tier.
Big difference breaking 8:20, Jager still only American to do so 2013!
Mahoney will never break 8:20. Turner future of the event besides Jager.
Cabral with that 3:56 mile should be up there soon. Give him some time to recuperate from the awful Pacific northwest, eat a decent bagel or two, and he should be back on his game.
