I may have missed when and/or where it was announced. I was just wondering if anyone has seen an update on where Ryan Hill will try to get 13:20. I had heard a rumor about him going to a smaller meet in Europe for a meet this coming weekend, but I heard that only a few days after the trials and have heard nothing of it since.
Where is Ryan Hill going to chase the standard?

Heusden on July 13.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I hope the meet is fast enough to give him an honest shot. Their website says they'll have up the program with start lists by tomorrow at noon, so I guess we'll find out tomorrow early morning.

It was fast last year. Looked up results on euro track meet last year and 13:20 would have been 9th if I remember correctly. "B" heat was won in 13:21.

Site I found results on. -
what about matt elliott?
-
Matt Elliot has no chance of going to worlds no matter how fast he runs.
-
I wish these M.E. fan boys would go to sleep already
-
Certainly. What a bore it is to see an underdog make a breakthrough living a "non-pro" lifestyle. I'd rather see 25 threads about Matt centro's faux hamstring injury.
-
Elliott can be an alternate if he gets the B and Centro gets the A.
I don't know if the US actually brings their alternates.
I think they list them and will bring an alternate if needed right before the meet if the person being replaced doesn't travel.
I can't recall a time where an alternate actually raced.
Sure someone can point to an example. -
David Payne in the 110 Hurdles in 2007...Was flown in as an alternate the day of (or perhaps the day before) when somebody got hurt (Dominique Arnold I believe) and walked away with the bronze medal

It will help Hill having Bumby, Elliott Heath, and True in his race. I think he'll get under 13:20.
-
Heath is in a different heat if i'm not mistaken, the B heat with Alan Webb. The other americans in the A heat with Hill are True, Bumbalough and Mead. Still should be a fast enough race though.
-
What is True's plan? If he races hard, he may help Hill get the B standard, which would knock True out of World's.
Maybe he wants to crush Hill, so that even if Hill gets the B and goes to Worlds, it is clear who the better man is. -
I would be shocked, pleasantly, but still shocked, if Hill get's the B standard. He was a 13:25 runner last year, but he's lost significant time to injuries. So I'm not sure his 5k fitness is even as good as last year.
That said, the field looks like it's might be relatively good for Hill. There's only a handfull of sub 13:20 guys and only 1 (I think) sub 13:10 guy. So the pace might well be in the 13:15 to 13:25 range. However, in my opinion the closer to 13:15 (or fast) the pace is the worse his chances become.
I think the only way True will think about Hill is if both get caught off the main pack running together. In that situation I think True will make Hill lead, or if he leads, he'll slow down.
Hill certainly has the talent to be a sub 13:20 one day. It's just a question if this is the year for him. -
If there are other runners on the bubble aiming for the standard he has chance, if not this group is not fast enough to pull him along , he will have to drive the pace. Most likely if they are not chasing the standard its turns into a tactical race and slow.
-
He won't get it. Maybe another year but his story ends here. He's just not a sub 13:20 guy.
-
Geesh, Hill ran 13:25 a year ago, plus he's got plenty of speed and another year of training. Of course he can break 13:20 in this race.
-
Yes, whether or not he has been running the kind of races that point to 13:20 all season, his performance at the US champs clearly indicates he is/was capable of 13:20. I don't know that he will do it here; maybe that race was lightening in a bottle.
