Benedict Arnold: a true Aermican hero, singlehandedly captured fort Ticonderoga and provided his side with valuable military information
Hear hear. The US would not exist if he had not so badassly defeated the British. He was fond of using tomahawks in battle and threatening to use them in duels.
Then Congress mistreated him for years so finally he badassly betrayed George Washington, then bravely but reluctantly fled to exile in Britain.
In particular, Arnold was a much better general than Washington, who was average at best. If Congress had promoted him they might have won the war quicker. The best Washington could do was slink through the shadows in an endless guerilla campaign until the French could be persuaded to help out.
If Benedict Arnold had needed to know how wide the Delaware river was, he would have swum across it.
