I know the wording of the amendments, and I am good with how they are interpreted today. But I am pointing out the fact that adding more restrictions for semi auto AR-15 rifles (the notion proposed in this thread) IS infringing on the right to bare arms, and silly. How some people go from a rifle being black, having a more comfortable grip, and pausing for a few less seconds to reload, to nuclear weapons is beyond me.
A good standard to use is the level of weaponry that your local police department deem necessary to deal with local criminals. An usually, they have a wide variety including AR-15 style rifles.
"A well regulated militia" is the key there. If it were not for those 4 words people convicted of a felony using a gun would be allowed to purchase guns in the future. A well regulated militia does not include felons with firearms. You would agree with that correct? Their constitutional right is not being infringed.
The bill of rights does not say that individuals have a basic human right to own fully automatic assault rifles, they have the right to own firearms under regulation. That is why laws restricting the sale of certain firearms are not unconstitutional.
