SEVEN Diamond League meets in this year, and Rupp has showed up ONCE, when he was OBLITERATED in Eugene.
Meanwhile, his competitors have actually been running a really great series, with some fast races, some tactical races and a variety of finishing times and orders.
Is this FAILURE TO COMPETE why Rupp is so totally UNCOMPETITIVE at the 5000 on the world stage? It is odd that he has been so unsuccesful in the event, given his proven mile and 10,000 ability.
DOHA 3000: Gebrhiwet wins in 7:30 (Longosiwa 2nd, Alamirew 3rd)
SHANGHAI: No men's distance events
NEW YORK 5000: Gebrhiwet wins in 13:10 (Chepkok 2nd, Jeilan 3rd, Gerbremeskel 6th)
EUGENE 5000: Soi wins in 13:04 (Farah 2nd, Alamirew 3rd, Longosiwa 4th, Rupp 6th, Jeilan 8th)
ROME 5000: Alamirew wins in 12:54 (Gebrhiwet 2nd, Soi 5th, Longosiwa 11th)
OSLO: No men's distance events
BIRMINGHAM: Farah wins in 13:14 (Alamirew 2nd, Gebrhiwet 3rd, Jeilan 4th)
OP,
While it's good for fans to see guys race, i'm not sure it
's benefitial for runners. Look how good Hagos was in May. Now it's July and he's getting smokes. You can't maintain a peak for 3 months.

Not true:
Farah - Racing
Gebremeskel - Injuried/ Out of shape
Longosiwa - Injuried/ Out of shape
Lagat - Raced as much as Rupp
Koech - Injuried/ Out of shape
Iguider - Racing 1500, not 5k.
Are you lying, or just stupid?
Farah - racing the DL sparingly
Gebremeskel - many DL races, faster 5000 than Rupp this year
Longosiwa - many DL races
Lagat - raced as much as Rupp
Koech - many DL races
Iguider - Racing 1500, not 5k.
But, Farah and Rupp are training partners. You would think they would be on similar schedules in terms of peak performance planning.
Something is up on the Rupp-side of the training team. He was visibly disappointed his plan to win the U.S. 5k didn't go as intended. Salazar and he must be working on adjustments to their training plan and racing strategy.
What is interesting is that Farah doesn't seem to need any training adjustments. My best guess is Rupp needs work on timing his race moves. Farah just seems to know when to go.

How many of the guys that are out there competing in the DL meets are a week off of Nats where they doubled 5k and 10k and made both squads for worlds?
ROTFL
I think that Alamirew, Gebrhiwet, Gebremeskel, Koech and Longosiwa would be pretty happy if they could make their squads with a 14:55 and a 28+.
After joke races like that, they might even want to tune up with some real racing against their competition. OH WAIT THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE DOING.

moron
Great points. Thanks.
Busy indoor season.
In contrast, DUCKING outdoor season.

rupp-certified saladbar, I'd just say that you're my favorite poster. I'd love to be a Rupp-fan, but all the gray-zone stuff he's doing, all the ducking of races and all his cowardish race tactics make it extremely hard to like him. He's a great runner, but he's not one to look up to.
Thanks for telling the truth.
I wish he would make it easier to like him, too. I've tried!

Didn't know this.

Kill the troll. Ban his IP address.
MORE homophobic slurs?
And you want ME banned? For pointing out that certain elite athletes don't race much?

Rojo makes a good point here.
Longosiwa also started well and has been basically going backwards in terms of times and places.

Lots of posts from the OP's IP address. Saladbar and coach d are (both) frauds. Are they brothers living in the same basement? Are they friends using the same computer? Are they one and the same?

He doesn't. Because I am definitely not coach D.

You're funny, and revealing your posts to be BS. There is only one RCS, and RCS is only RCS.
Lots of people agree with me, that's all.

Interesting points. Farah really does seem to be coming along in a way that Rupp hasn't shown this outdoor season. He was certainly on fire indoors, though, and I'm sure he has great things to show. When and if he ever races before Moscow.

By the way, this is pure gold to a troll. Lifetime achievement award stuff. THANKS FOR PLAYING.
my take on rupp.
he's 90% now. he did mini-peak to make the team. he'll want to get in a bit of rest then do three weeks of work, then go for the gusto, and peak grandly for the worlds.
i'd love to see the new and improved rupp that salazar is reporting from workouts, one that is much superior to the guy that ran 26:4x.
but as a betting man, until i see something like a 331 1500m result, i have rupp pegged for 3 position for 10k and 6 the for 5k.
but if you do see a 331 1500m consider a large wager on rupp for silver once again and a smaller one on gold.

Times have changed. Eddy Merckx was able to win all grand tours in one year, peaking from May to September. Not possible anymore. Not even Lance could do that.
Running is very similar these days.

Um, what? I was talking about runners ahead of him. He won't keep progressing by following the leaders. He is near, or already, at max speed. Rupp won't be a winner using his kick-technique.
You obviously were incapable of understanding the post you were responding to. Also you are obviously incredibly stupid. Rupp keeps getting closer, you act like a brain dead moron who thinks it's his race strategy and "lack of being a leader" that keeps him from being the WORLD'S best. Is that all it takes? Why don't all the other runners do that as well. You really have it all figured out huh? You don't have to actually be fast enough first to be the best, just be a leader.

I think rupp had a mini peak at last years trials, but not one this year and if he races with any tactical brain he should be contending for the win in the 10 and maybe getting bronze in the 5 , thats a big maybe though
rojo wrote:

This might explain his lack of racing success. Smokes is not good for runners.
