I kind of want to go boxing with one of my friends this weekend because my boyfriend is out of town, I'm bored, and I need something to do. Also, it's free for your first class. I don't usually do a lot of physical activity outside of running, strength training, and corework. I figure maybe I can work this into my week and use it as cross-training.
Just wondering if anyone has done a boxing class. Is it good cross-training? I know it's supposed to be pretty good exercise in general. Is there any risk? I usually avoid stuff like basketball and soccer because I don't want to get hurt and not be able to run (yeah, I'm a boring person).
Also the easiest time to go is over the weekend, but I'm worried that it won't be a good idea because of my weekend workout schedule. If it doesn't work we can put it off until during the week after. If a typical week looks roughly like this:
Monday: 8.5 + corework
Tuesday: 6 + strides
Wednesday: AM 5, PM 8.5 with quality + strength
Thursday: 8.5 + corework
Friday: 7.5 + strides
Saturday: 10 with quality + strength
Sunday: 16
Then what's the optimal time to box (or cross-train in general, if I want to go do something fun with friends that happens to be physical, since even my non-running friends are very active people)? If I box on Saturday or Sunday, am I going to be burning myself out or not getting the entire benefit of the workout? I'm worried that if I box on Sunday I won't be able to eat enough to recover adequately.
If I actually go for this I'mma ask my coach too obviously but I just figured I'd post and see if anyone has any opinions about this. Also, I'm really bored and LetsRun is always super entertaining.
