Mary Cain: 15:45.46. Just got under the USATF A standard of 15:46.00
Mary Cain makes her 5,000-meter debut and runs 15:45.46! New High School Record! She does it again.

didn't he run a 61 minute half marathon? salazar loves potential marathoners.
Puskreda at Oregon always reminded me of a slightly less talented version of Salazar with the same strengths and weaknesses. Puskreda was among the top NCAA runners in XC all 4 years and excelled on the track his senior year. I look forward to some Puskedra surprise performances.
15:45.46
And therein lies the problem. He's a 3:30 man, he shouldn't simply be aiming to make world/olympic teams. Look at Centro, he goes there to win and believes he can every time he steps on the track. This is not the case with wheating who runs like a scared freshman when he races the big boys in championship races. Look at all of his olympic and world championship races and you'll see how scared he races, never even looking like he wants it but is rather happy to just be there. THAT is what limits his potential and has him falling behind our rising young middle distance runners who believe they can compete and win on a global stage
Yes yes yes!
So she closed her last 800 in ~2:22?
That's really, really impressive.

not only is she a brilliant racer but she can perform to the half second, on command.
Wow, that was close, with a 2:22 last 800m.
This race proves that Cain is somewhat human anyway.

Cain now holds "real world" HS records for 800, 1500 and 5000. She only needs the 3000 to have a clean sweep.
She has not need to run the fake HS distances of 1600 and 3200.
Now holds all U.S. high school records from 800 to 5000 meters. GREATEST OF ALL TIME!
Agree. Most distance runners who run sub-4:05 for 1500 can run sub 15:20 for 5K and definitely at least sub-15:30. Shows she still has some margin for improvement and will likely continue to get better as she improves her endurance & LT.
Erdmann finally gets a decent race under her belt outdoors.
Umm...ever heard of Jordan Hasay?

Salazar did say it wasn't going to be an all out effort and that they were "only going" for the usatf A standard/HS record as a backup to the 1500. But this was a little close.

Also, indoor mile and indoor 2 miles.
Did Mary Decker ever run a 5000m in high school? Or were they only racing 3000m then?
The mile was the longest race at that time.
I wonder why they would want to use the 5K as the backup race. Given he 800 at Pre one would think that would be her backup in case the 1500 goes wrong. I'm sure she could go under 15:30 on a all out effort but there are far more women who can do that than can run 1:59.5 after barely going out sub 60
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
