I was originally hoping to run close to 2:40 flat for my first marathon, which is in two-ish weeks.
However I ended up losing a good three+ weeks of quality training (end of April into May) with anemia...I could hardly run 40 minutes at an easy pace, so training hard wasn't happening.
My iron levels are more or less sorted out, but I'm very much behind in training now and still have to take a lot of recovery days in between workouts to feel decent. My workouts have just been a short fartlek and a 10-12 mile progression run averaging 6:30 pace, which I've done for about 3 weeks averaging maybe 60 mpw.
At the end of this time, right when I first started taking iron, I ran a 10k and only managed a 37:20, which yeah...pretty damn slow. However, two weeks later (and about two weeks ago, now) I ran a 10 mile race in 57:55, going through 10k in 35:25.(Big surprise given the training I've been doing!) and today I did a 13 mile tempo run @ 6:20 pace.
My concern in the marathon is the distance...I simply know I'm not prepared to run a good, hard 26.2 miles off of 60 mpw w/ long runs of 15-16 miles, which is all I've been able to consistently do since the anemia problems.
I don't know what goal to go for?
Based on my 10 mile time and today's run, is it conceivable I could break 2:50 for the marathon, even with admittedly inadequate endurance for the distance?
