Why his father?
Either:
- his wife (who was his coach)
- Stephane Franke (RIP)
- Dieter himself
So you're tellin me that Kenenisa Bekele, greatest 5/10k runner of all time, isn't gonna be able to run a time at 30 years of age that Bernard Lagat ran at 36 years of age?? Haha gtfo, if this was a troll attempt then you have some work to do sir, because it was a pitiful attempt at best. If it was an honest post, then you're just flat mental breh. Not tryin to bash on Lagat either, he's the man.

Yes but Kenny never took EPO.

12:54 would be very impressive. He would basically break Dieter Baumanns "white men record". We will see, I doubt he can do it this year.
who are the top 5 all-time white guys at 5000m?
mottram solinsky ritz baumann Tegenkamp ?
mottram solinsky ritz baumann kennedy
Kenenisa Bekele Wants To Run a Fast 5000m In Hengelo June 8th
That's unpossible, he just ran a 10,000 last weekend. Shouldn't he be recovering until the WCs? Or doesn't the rest of the world require as much recovery time as the NOP?

I am telling you that Kenenisa Bekele, arguably the greatest 5k/10k runner of all time, is never going to faster than 12:54 again. I have never been "a troll" in the sense that this is me, there is nothing but me being me. You need to learn from your superiors. Listen to me, and listen to me closely: Alan Webb, arguably the greatest miler in U.S. history, and most will probably not agree with this, including me, but certainly the fastest recorded U.S. miler in history, is not ever again going to run faster than he did in high school. Alan is 30 years old, and he will never duplicate his fastest time in the mile from high school. Kenenisa Bekele is turning 31 years old next week, and he will never run faster than 12:54 again. Got it?

Webb is nowhere near good enough to compare to Bekele. Bekele is arguably as fast as Webb is at the 1500m and it's not even his main event.
A better comparison would be El G at 31 vs Bekele at 31.
You are not very bright. You do not reason logically. I was not comparing Webb to Bekele, although you are wrong about Bekele being as fast as Webb at 1500m. Webb was superior to Bekele at the mile and below, and it is not even debatable.
However, that is irrelevant. ElG was retired at age 31, so it is also stupid to bring him up. If you want to compare Bekele to anybody, you should pick Geb. Bekele cannot run a real fast 5000m any more. This is reality.
Chet
If you weren't comparing Webb to Bekele, then why did you mention Webb at all?

I mentioned Webb because as great as Webb was, and you must know that Webb was great (as he ran 3:53.43 as an 18 year old, and 3:46.91 at age 24), if somebody had told you in 2008 that after the age of 25, Alan would never run faster at the mile or its 1500m equivalent than he did as a high school kid, you would have said, "You are a troll, or you a really stupid..." I bring up Webb, not because I am comparing Webb to Bekele, but because in April 2010 I started this thread
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?board=1&id=3815051&thread=3496235essentially stating that Kenenisa would never be the dominant runner again, not that he wouldn't be a factor, and many said I was trolling or stupid, blah, blah, blah, and now I tell you that Kenenisa will never run faster than 12:54 again, and I get the same responses.
Fatal flaw in your argument. You are assuming that you know the future.
There is an exception to every rule. Like you being wrong from time to time.
Funny how only 1 American has run faster, even though 12:54 isn't very fast according to some. Breaking 13 right now would be great for Bekele.

And again, for the moron who says Kenenisa will "easily" break 12:54 again, it has been 6 years since Kenenisa has been under 12:50.
He didn't even run a 5000 in 10 or 11. In 08 and 09, he won double golds. In 08, he was so much better than everyone else that he won by 4.98 seconds. So much for being unable to run sub 12:50. In 12, he ran 1 5000, hitting 12:55 while still not 100% recovered from injury. Bekele probably won't win gold if he competes in 5000 at WCs this year (Gebrhiwet will), but that doesn't mean that he can't still crush out a 5000 around 12:46 to 12:48 when healthy and peaked.

You cannot even count. Kenenisa Bekele was 4th at Prefontaine 5000m in 13:01 and ran 13:13 in bad conditions in Shanghai, so the 12:55 would make 3 5000m races in 2012. That 12:55 was in the fastest race of the year, in which Gebremeskel ran 12:46 and Gebrhiwet 12:47, and Kenenisa had no answer. He won't get many chances like he had in Paris to run fast, and he is not able to even when he gets them.
I am sure he will run 12:40 at Brussels.

He was injured and still ran 12:55.
And in 08, when he was apparently "unable" to run sub 12:50, he finished the Olympic 5000 by kicking a 53 second last lap immediately after a 4:02 mile split.
He's not injured now, so he will beat anyone other than Gebrhiwet and maybe Mo Farah in any 5000 at any pace. He is fully capable of 12:49 right now.
Oh, and don't forget that he very easily outkicked 12:53 man Imane Merga last week. Check his interviews to see that he actually complained that there was no-one there to push him.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
