Why not? They're light...if you're buying a show specifically for racing, then maybe I'd get something else... but they're good enough.
I still often race in lower profile type shoes, sometimes my metatarsals are sore after though.
I like the Kinvara quite a bit for my easy runs, but I find it to be a little too soft for 5k/10k. For shorter races like that, the Type A5 is my shoe of choice.
