I'm sure the topic as been discussed. Can a HS runner turn pro before graduation? I wouldn't think so but wasn't she. Not sure what the next step would be for Mary Cain

Newsflash: there is no "turning pro" for runners. Cain could "turn pro" whenever she wants. The only thing it would affect is NCAA eligibility.
With a 4:04, just imagine how much $$$ she could make this summer running in DL events. She doesn't need an NCAA scholarship. But apparently, she has put off that decision until next year.
Wouldn't "turning pro" just mean accepting compensation for running? I don't see any reason why she couldn't.
She can do as she pleases but if you'd like to try college competition and maybe win an NCAA title why not give it a go for a year or two?
She could run get a full ride, do a couple of CC Inv including the NCAA. Rum the NCAA indoor mile and strart running for cash afterwards. It's not like she'd have a demanding coach, she'd --with Al--set her own schedule.
The point is she isn't desperate for the $$$ so why not chill out a bit before "turning pro" in 2015?
At this point the NCAA really has nothing to offer an athlete like Cain. She would be unstoppable and with her marketability a Nike sponsorship would cover her college costs. Running in college would be a big step down in competition and not the best choice for her career. Saying that I still think that she will wait until she graduates from high school to make the decision.
Next year as a senior in high school she'll be legitimately competing with top international athletes, as in the best in the world. NCAA would be a joke to her. She will go pro after high school, which will make her a lot more money than any NCAA scholarship. I'm sure she'll go to college but run pro. She's the greatest American mid-d/distance running prodigy ever (better than Webb and Ryun, better than Mary Decker). Expect her to be the best 1500/3k runner on the planet by the time she's 20. No reason whatsoever to run in college.
Is there any age requirement a la NFL and NBA? Is there an age where the IAAF may say, whoa that's a bit young to be racing the adults? Just curious.
She beat several Olympians in that race last night. College competition for her would be far, far back in her rear view mirror in any race other than a championship.

Money you moron! People like you make it so hard to have a honest conversation on this
Cain has a 4.0 in high school she isn't going to run her whole life, and she knows it. She'll go to college. oregon obviously. she'll win a lot of stuff in track but will have more trouble in xc.
99% chance she does NCAA.
I'm not even sure what this means.

if she has a 4.0, why on earth would she go to oregon? try stanford or princeton with nike paying the tuition.

Why would she go to a dump like Princeton or Standord? Why not Harvard or Yale?
0% chance she runs in college. There would be no point. She can still go to college, but she certainly won't run for one. She's a HS junior and she's already better than everybody in college. And a scholarship doesn't matter because she'd be making more money as a pro.
you are right. both stanford and princeton are dumps. why would anyone want to attend either of those dumps?

Why not take college classes strictly for the education, and also run professionally and make millions while she is in college?
A college degree plus a shit ton of money. How about that?

millions?
Are we following the same sport?
3/5 on Orb if I bet enough and if Orb wins I could make millions too.

Guys like Andrew Wheating and Galen Rupp are pulling in $400k-$600k per year. Cain's marketability is above either of these two. Yes millions, dimwit.

Well not 344 million, but millions as in 2.3 million dollars over the course of a 4 year college education.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
