6th at XC world champs, sub 4 mile, and now 13:14: this dude is for real. I'm not sure about sub 13 but I can see him around 13:05 or 27:0x at a later spring early summer dimond league meet. And I'm pretty sure that he will go to Worlds for the 10k.

Great name, Maverick Darling!

Agreed on most counts.
And kudos to True.
But, "pretty sure that he will go to Worlds for the 10k?" Seriously? Rupp is a lock. True is not going to beat Derrick on the track. That leaves him fighting for the last spot with Ritz, Teg and others. Does he have a shot? Sure. But to say that this is a near certainty seems a bit of a stretch to me.
I thought the top 3 10K spots were pretty much a lock, but based on True's WXC performance and how well he is doing at shorter distances, I would say he is in the mix for that 2nd or 3rd spot. Also, I think his WXC performance gives him the A standard which means he can run a tactical 10k at USATF.
Can someone post a non FT-pro video link of the that 5K race if it is available. Btw, I am no board with the FT boys making a buck, but pro is a little steep for my blood.

It was up last night right after the event. If you watched the Kim Conley interview, the 5,000 showed up in the thumbnails. It seems to have been taken down as of early this morning, but it looked like True took the lead with 1400 meters to go. Jager sat on him the whole way, but True found another gear in the last 100. I was wanting to catch the splits of the final 1600 as to compare them to Solinsky's 62,60,59,&57 from 2011 USATF champs 5,000.
Try the twitter feed. The were providing the 400m splits so you should be able to construct them [if you do, please post for the convenience and enjoyment of others ;>) ]. I doubt it is that close to CS's finish. Although the projected finishing time did tumble at the end the generally evenly paced race does not allow as hard a finish as a strategic race.
This is pretty sweet to see finishing form..
The 5000 men's team for worlds, you have to pick Lagat, Rupp and Lomong, in whatever order, but it's really great to see an emerging echelon of talent close on their heels.
And, think of Teg with his 4th place finish in the 2007 worlds. Solinsky and Ritz with their stellar PRs from a few years past.
The U.S. is a bonafide power in distance running. It's very exciting. I'm a big fan of many runners from abroad, always have been, but this is sweeet.
Too ready Too early.
I think that Diego becomes 4th all time collegian at 13:15. and Jenkins has improved an unbelievable amount. You have to think that he remains a ways from his ceiling if he can drop 50 seconds in one year in the 3k and who knows how much in 5k to the A standard level. True has now shown at 1500m and 5000m that he will be a serious threat to qualify for Worlds in the 10000m, with the speed to outkick anyone there but Rupp and the strength from World XC to challenge or even beat Derrick again.

2007 was six (6) years ago. You might as well be talking about Bill Rodgers.

Damn these are the fast times for so early in the season. What's even scarier is the fact I believe everyone on this list will get faster as the season progresses.
Major Major Shout Out: Eric Jenkins of Northeastern. I don't know the kid, but to get DQ'd, stay humble, put the work in and bust a 13:18 is awesome. I remember back when Brent Vaughn ran 13:18 for Colorado; that time was so fast (particularly at that time) I nearly spilled my coffee. And now, a kid from small school NE is running just as fast in an urban city with 0 altitude. Times have changed...
Northeastern isn't a small school. It's also either #1 or #2 every year breaking records for applications for a private university. It's number 1 for internships and the most talked about schools out there by those who know, and has one of the best job placement records in the country. NU also used to be the largest private university in the county before its amazing transformation and climbing through the ranks at warp speed. Still has around 15k undergrads.

True beating Jager and the rest of the field shows how talented TRUE is. He ran at Dartmouth and didn't run during the winter. Solinsky trained with Schumacher at Wisconsin (a far better team than Dartmouth) and has run for Nike since. True is running amazing times. He also has an incredible kick. He ran the last 1000 or more of that race from the front. VERY impressive.
True didn't just run during the winter, he was mixing it up with even better runners during that time frame. Still a very solid performance from him

Anyone else sensing that this is the year Lagat falls off somewhat? I like him, but it has to happen sometime...that could open the door for True. Rupp, Lomong, True.

Falling off? Sure. Enough that Rupp and Lomong may beat him when it counts? Possible. Anyone else in the US? Not yet.
Wait 'til next year. Lagat will probably be retired then.
I believe they were in the range of 65, 63, 61, 58. Not really comparable to Solinsky, but 4:07 aint bad.
Ritz and Teg have a big problem and his name is Ben True.
13:14 with strong finishing speed, will be very tough for Ritz and Teg to deal with. Rupp and Derrick are pretty automatic for the 10k in my opinion.
If Ritz and Teg employ the same tactic as last year and run a 27:40 10k at the trials, it will likely not be enough to shake True.
Ritz is going to have to be able to run that sub 27 that he has been talking about to have a chance of making the world team.

True has already beaten Derrick and he'll do it again at the trials.
True has no chance of making the Worlds team. A B-list guy through and through.
splits look like
65,64,61,59 for True. I'm really surprised Jager couldn't go by True in the last 100. Diego Estrada actually had a huge last 100.

I was talking about the 10K, True's chances in the 5k are slim.
