Why do they do the Boston Marathon on Monday?

every patriots day, the Queen of England sends a force to retake the Colonies, starting with Boston. The US is aware of this fact, so Boston started sending the fastest men they knew to run into the city and warn the people that the British are coming. However, as technology improved and the Brits could cross the Atlantic faster, Boston has employed Kenyans to warn the townsfolk.

The 10 o'clock start was instituted in 2007. For most of the 116 years, Boston had a traditional noon start.

It is Patriots Day, of course, and if you have to ask the question you really have not been thinking a whole lot. Biggest day in Massachusetts history and thus a state Holiday. The Red Sox also play a day game. In 1979 when Joanne Benoit won in a bit of a surprise she was wearing a Red Sox cap.

I'd always thought it was a Bowdoin hat to match her singlet. Searched but all the pics I see she has the hat on backwards. Now after looking at the pics and seeing her in the livestrong apparel, I wonder if she'll be wearing it this morning.

No one named "Joanne" has ever won the Boston Marathon.

You have to be from Massachusetts to know the answer I guess. It would seem very strange to have it on any other day, I grew up near the 6 mile mark.

Also probably to allow morning rush hour traffic to conclude before closing the streets and bisecting the towns along the course.
