The scary thing is that this is 42 seconds off her PR. Winning by that much has to build some confidence though. Poor Kara...

So, the Stanford track is longer than 400 meters?
I think he meant she was "inside" of the track, though I'm not sure how she got back out of there.

Shalane Flanagan 31:04!!! DAMN!
Decent time, but she'll have to drop close to a minute off that to be competitive on the world level.

+1. Good things to come for Shalane.

That what you call a coaching breakdown mistake. Coach should have been calculating last mile as race was progressing , urging her over the last two laps to what she had run to get the time , screaming over the last lap to help her get there. Didn't happen.
Where does she try next?
now long has she been one of the top 3 female (distance runners) in America?...seem like 10 years...and domination continues
Goucher lost time right off the bat, running with the College girls. That she closed as well as she did (69, same as Flanagan) said that should have been hitting 76's (31.45 for 10k) much earlier in the race. Wasted effort for the standard (assuming that she doesn't already have it).
Shalane looked amazing. Her form is so on point. Everyone else looked like shufflers compared to her.
7th on the all-time U.S. list.
1 30:22.22 Shalane Flanagan Beijing 2008
2 30:34.49 Shalane Flanagan Palo Alto 2008
3 30:39.57 Shalane Flanagan Palo Alto 2011
4 30:50.32 Deena Kastor Palo Alto 2002
5 30:55.16 Kara Goucher Beijing 2008
6 30:59.97 Shalane Flanagan Eugene 2011
7 31:04.85 Shalane Flanagan Palo Alto 2013
8 31:09.65 Deena Kastor Sacramento 2004

Goucher twitted that she was aiming to run 32:00, but decided she could run faster at 4 miles. An A standard would have been nice, but this was really a time trial for her and Flanagan; the race began with Hasay, Goethals and Bottorff. I imagine Goucher is happy with this going into Boston.
8:06 is like 14:00? that is crazy indeed.
Goucher may not like to hear this but the greatest setback for a female athlete is not a big injury, it's giving birth. She will never get back to where she was before....like her impressive NYCM debut or the 3rd place Boston. Those days are gone.
Catherine Ndereba and Ingrid Kristiansen are just two who disprove your statement

Link to evidence beyond the anecdote or you're a liar.
Shalane probably finish in 2:22:18 personal best. I don't see her beating rita jeptoo and meseret hailu.

Can't stand Catherine ndereba god hates catherine for her arrogance. Catherine doesn't even look kenyan she look like african catherine finish 22nd place in nagoya 2:35:08.
Goucher is half the runner she was while under Salazar. Remember, Salazar had her running a 1:06 HALF MARATHON! Now, she is happy to sub-1:10.
She's been one of the top 1 female (distance runners) for eight years. And make no mistake, she has the basic fitness to slice another minute off 31:04 in the right race.
