Well, whaddaya know--a voice of sanity! Now if we could just get some of these other "big" meets to do the same, kids might not have to give up a half-week (or more) of school, three times a season, just for the chance to make Nationals.
Is that the week after Pre-Nats?
Probably not. The schedule looks pushed back a week.
2012: Louisville, Ky. (host: Louisville), November 17
2013: Terre Haute, Ind. (host: Indiana State), November 23
Will there be limited team entries this year?? I know Mick talked about that after this year's race.
This is a pure guess, but I suspect that there will be low-30s teams for both men and women. The last two years have been 'unusual', with ISU doing a 'fill-in' role that lead to a Sunday meet, and the on-off Louisville site for Pre-Nats/NCAAs. mid-40s is just a little too big for single races. A lot of teams have now seen the new course (due to Big Tens, then super-big invite for a couple of years and the Great Lakes Regional. 33 teams implies 230 runners or so on the course, which it can handle reasonably well (any course that can handle 300+ runners is exceptional and in a manner that is not necessary.
I am guessing that the whole DI set of schools has provided a lot of feedback on the pluses an minuses of various issue. Some people (coaches?) really like the Friday scheduling, but the fans do not. The 19th is an away football game, while the 12th is a home game, so the 19th makes it much easier to get hotels and transportation without having to contend with 81,000 football fans.
Why would coaches prefer Friday scheduling? Wouldn't they prefer to minimize missed class time?
The field has been announced. 32 Men's teams and 33 Women's teams.
