According to an interview in "The TImes" newspaper a few years back, his resting pulse rate was 28 when he did some testing at Loughborough around about the time of the Moscow Olympics. I did have a link to the article, but the Times set up a subscription to their archives a few years back, so it doesn't work now!
I definitely remember 28 as the figure, and I think he said that it was around 42 now (or 3 years ago anyway). All this was relayed when he recounted an incident when he was at a dinner at an army base in Germany when an MP, and he had an allergic reaction to fish. Apparently the doctors there thought there was something seriously wrong when he was admitted to the base hospital, as his heart beat was so low.
