the 10K world record wont be broken for another few years and the only athlete that has a realistic chance is Hagos Gebrehiwot. Totally shattered the world junior record over 5K last summer, i am sure he will be the dominant athlete over the next 5 years.
A bit clueless here chaps , if Geoff K wants to run Hengelo he will as he is managed by Joss , he also has a great pedigree if you cae to look at what he has done in the past..... and as for the clown who asks what meet Kericho is again look past end of your nose its part of AK XC series
is he really a junior? he is probably on the juice.
Your conversions assume his 800m condition is @ 1:43.5/1:43.9, which you know it isn't. I would like to think his current 1500m ability would be closer to 3:36 at the present with no real pace work for 800m/1500m training.
I'd love to see Kiprop climb up the list of 1500m times, his 3:28 last year was evidence that this cross country strength is immensely helpful towards that objective. I don't expect to see too many more 1:43 lows from him, but I don't believe either that he should forgo the speed necessary to continue to be exceptional. I would love to see what he can continue to do from 800m on up.
no
i'm very confident he is in high 1'43 shape currently
the more relevant figure is current 400 ability
at peak, i'd say high-46, but currently more like high-47/48-flat because of lack of speedwork
that woud normally mean his peak 800 of high-1'42 shoud be around 1'45-flat now
however, this is why we analysed this x-country race, as i believe it is strong evidence of huge improvement in his endurance & that 1'45.0 might be as quick as high-1'43 ( as stated he wasn't doing enough endurance work before from canova, because he didn't like it )
that's why i said high-1'43 - a consequence of much better endurance
no chance
he is likely to be well under 3'30 currently
don't be fooled by speedwork
guys like komen & geb had sub-3'30 ability & coudn't crack 1'46 at their peak
asbel is developing some superb endurance for a 1500/800 guy & you can run sub-3'30 off that
he needs the speed to be competitive in slow races - which most medal races are
if he is chasing the clock, his current shape is already pb level & if he just wanted the clockings, he'd ease of speedwork as it might cost him some of this hard earned endurance
Komen ran 3:29.46 so not only had he "sub 3:30 ability"
he dipped under. Geb was of course not close.
inconsistancy with Kiprop should raise ?? some days he is ordinary then suddenly boom... a quick boost here and there maybe ?

eh ???
what do you call 3'31.76 indoors if it had been outdoors ???

3:31.76 outdoors. How stupid are you? 3:31.76 is still 3:31.76 no matter where it is run.
typical moron response
ever heard of concept of double the centripetal/centrifugal force indoor bends requiring much more energy to maintain pace compared to outdoors & reducing kinetic energy available for the straights ???
the iaaf tables have 3'31.76i = 3'27.43 !!!
even taking out their huge statistical bias due to infrequency of runs compared to outdoors, it is still going to be hugely better than 3'31.76 outdoors - about mid/high-3'29 if you do the physics
You can get all excited about the 10k scene if it makes you feel better. This thread is basically you talking mainly to yourself!
Only you would dare take a x country performance in Jan and scientifically (lol) go about trying to prove he must be in 3:27 shape for 1500 right now! That really is laughable. Kiprop's performance merely tells us he is coming on nicely with his endurance phase early season. It is not possible to extrapolate his current form for 400, 800, etc. Ha, ha.
And there is no way that Geb was ever capable of a 3:27 for 1500. Those tables for conversion, just like the ones for altitude, are not reliable. People have already explained to you on here before how different athletes are affected differently by altitude and how the modern indoor tracks are just as fast as outdoor ones. A 3:31.7 indoors tells us he was capable of 3:31 that day. He wouldn't have been over 4 Secs faster had he run it outdoors. EPO or not, Geb was never capable of that.
moron
it is a fantastic achievement to be just over 2'00 behind in a 12k behind a likely superb 10k guy in kipsang, likely mid-26 shape - already 27'06 from 1.5y ago to build on
canova has stated kiprop didn't do the endurance work needed, but this looks to have changed
he is currently in the shape i believe morceli was in at his peak - in region of ~ high-1'43/1'44-flat & 3'27
any significant speed work from here may actually be counter-productive, losing some of this hard agained endurance
idiot
this is by far best endurance run of his life
he looks finally to have done all the hard mileage he shouda done years before
moron
it is perfectly possible to estimate
at his peak he is around high-46 & even off season, his speed woudn't drop much as that has been his main asset during the years - evidenced by a brace of 1'43.1s which few 1500 guys have matched & he started off far too slow in both these
his speed is not likely to ever drop much & i offered him a reasonable 48-flat currently but his expected 1'45-flat with it, from simple proportion of high-46/high-1'42 scaled up to 48.0 is likely to be much better in view of better endurance evidenced by this race
moron
learn to read
i said that is iaaf tables equivalent
i said the physics conversion of 3'31.7i comes out at ~ mid/high-3'29, or doesn't concept of rotational physics not register in your peabrain ???
Back to subject of couse he has a possibility with corect preparation and nutrition as for sure he has the speed , told me last yar he wants to have a yer doing 10k but his manager only wants him to run marathons ..... guess he'll visit the shop by rthe Hilton in Nairobi soon enough and then his pic can be snapped by the German Journo...
Soooooo....no one else is going to call out ventolin for claiming that Kiprop is in low 3:27 shape off of no speed work?
dont thnk anyone actually took it too seriously , its impossible to be in that shape with no speed...not worth alot of comment
It's not his best ever endurance performance. He won the world junior x country title in 2007 and has produced several good runs on the country over the years.
A 12km x country tells us NOTHING about his current 400 or 800 speed. He has always been an endurance based athlete.
3:31.7 is still worth just that. A 3:29 outdoors is a nonsense.

I already had. Any merit to Ventolin's comments, and there aren't many, are completely lost when he comes out with such nonsense.

Ventolin is a nutter. He thinks that Farah and Rupp have the same sprint speed, as though all runners with similar 10k potential have the same amount of fast twitch.

Can you support the opposite claim with a logical line of thoguth? At least Ventolin supports his ideas
