I hate it too, but I guess it's addicting. I get really mad at judgmental blokes like sprintgeezer who can say some awful things with impunity. The shenanigans of one poster who shall remain unnamed, but he's ubiquitous, arrogant, but seems to have a posse of followers who protect him, plus the random scary racist stuff by those who post up 70 repeat threatening threads in 10 minutes IN CAPS. That just isn't right. Then if you raise a point, 4/5 time your questioning is removed with no explanation. There is a pathology here and some recognize it. But either the managers do not, or they do not care, or they actually like it.
I have gone underground and don't post under the same name. And I will continue to do so until they clean it up or require registration.
It's not as many as you think. A lot of it is the same posters over and over and over....believe it or not. Same writing style and same tone. A thread like that has fewer new people than you realize. This site has lost more originals that don't come here anymore and it's the non-registration thing that has destroyed it.
You certainly aren't one to talk. You voted to NOT change the format and to keep things the way that they are, and then you complain afterwards. Remember?
You got your way and now you've decided that you don't want it anymore. Boo Hoo. I voted for separate boards as in running only versus what you voiced for your choice. You have argued incessantly over FB threads as if you and you alone have the right answer. Newsflash, you don't.
Unless it gets changed, it will only get worse.

This.little.gem is more important than most realize. When the house looks.like garbage, people throw their trash on the floor. If we upgraded to a modern message board with categories, logins and securities, people would.inherently be more respectful. And organize the content with a CMS already. The main page is a middle school news page on steroids.
I visit this site because there is some good information. I am able to ignore the ignorant silly threads. I would however be embarrassed to recommend this forum to any of my friends!
I have to agree. I used to visit regularly and surf the boards, but since the brojos obviously make no effort to curb, perhaps aren't even aware of, and sometimes actively promote, the misogyny, homophobia, and racism on the site, I've just stopped looking at anything other than the homepage. It was only your thread subject today that made me click.
You'd think that with their sizeable audience, the brojos would feel some sort of responsibility to educate and, although it sounds grandiose, to make running better.
Joad, your post above this one is a classic - 'too much racism! Except about the Jews! Those posts should stay!
JFC.
Anyway, I am, like most people, of two minds on lrc. It is a community, but it is deeply flawed. I wish I could recommend my 15 year old running son to poke around to learn about the sport, but I can't because of the nasty posters like Joad there.
Anyway, registration would wreck the site - it is a delicate and difficult thing to create a board that has any value, and these boards do have value. registration would likely drive most of the people away.
As for the SFH crisis - the three or five most popular links are SFH links - that's what people are clicking on. Those who are complaining about the 'obsessive' coverage...not the brojos fault.
and point two - don't these threads always appear in the downseason? there is bloody nothing going on in running except SFH.
When outdoor starts the running threads will be much more common.
Why exactly would registration wreck the site? Has it ever been tried? If the Brojos had any business sense (and it has been demonstrated repeatedly that they don't), they would listen to their users/consumers rather than just ignoring them as a 'noisy few'. Many of the noisy few used to be professionals and former elites that now no longer post due to constant flaming and attacks.
How hard would it be to set up a mirror LR message board system with registration and topic sections? Vbulletin or whatever. Maybe 15 minutes? Just put a link in directly below the one for this horribly flawed board and those that prefer to use that one will. If the content and culture of that board surpass this one over time everyone will shift over. The cost is zero $ plus 15 minutes.
I bet I've learned 90% of what I know about the sport from this site, but I'd never dare recommend it to a friend or running partner due to fear of what they might think of me.

The continued existence of letsrun suggests that the brosjo do in fact have some business sense.

I wouldn't recommend it to friends either but probably for different reasons than you. Like TxRunnerGirl they probably couldn't handle it over time. I don’t blame her, this is a tough place to hang out, especially if you’re a girl.
I think the reason I like LRC is because it allows me access to individuals who have a different perspective than mine. Most of my friends are thoughtful, rational and intelligent people. I really don't get a peek into the mindset of a vast majority of Americans. With LRC allowing them to post anonymously I get some insight in the seedy underbelly of their deep rooted hopes, fears, beliefs, etc. This voyeuristic peek isn't for everyone which is why I treat LRC like fight club.
As for SFH, the news isn’t so much entertaining as it is titillating - a train wreck that you can’t look away from. I’ve made a conscientious decision in my life to invest in my spouse and offspring. By investing I mean that I believe that it is better for my family and me to develop a partnership based on monogamy, trust and love. I was deeply disappointed in SFH, Tiger Woods and all the others that put hardship on their families because they deviated from perceived societal mores. They chose their path as I have mine. I’m certainly not going to say that mine path is better than theirs or vice versa.
After all, most athletes usually overcome difficulties in their lives to achieve greatness so if my ultimate goal is to raise great athletes maybe I should have packed up and left home a long time ago. Obviously that is not my ultimate goal. My goal is to raise thoughtful, rational, intelligent people who are completely unlike 90% of the people who post here.
So while TRG might be leaving I’m definitely staying.
Great post. Besides, there are only so many ways to make running interesting. Yes, the Olympics were great, and I will generally watch the last 5k of any major marathon, but if running is your sole purpose in life, I would highly recommend doing some serious introspection and diversifying. Most runners have hobbies outside of running, and that is reflected here. By the way, you can learn everything you need to know about running by reading the Summer of Malmo or Coach Vigil's book. I still think the black page with the skimpy photos of SFH was classless and there are many trolls here, most of them likely in the age 17-23 range, but there is a lot of great insight on a number of topics. Running just happens to be the common bond.
Pretty Woman was a fake story! Made up and based on not one bit of truth. Just like all of the fake crap you post. Julia Roberts is not a hooker, not even close. The fact that you would go that low to make yourself feel better is pathetic and makes you look crazy for degrading her good name. Grow up. Everyone wants you to GROW UP! People aren't trying to control you or out to get you. They are defending themselves from the damage you do to them. Leave everyone alone until you get yourself together.
I've been a huge letsrun fan for ages (since ~2003), and the board has changed a lot since then (for the worse).
There are simply much better ways to find the information that you used to only be able to find on LetsRun. Despite the anonymity there was a sense of community here. Now everything is fragmented and as a result we have:
- Less elites reading and posting (because they have their own blogs / sites / twitter)
- More trolling (death of Dyestat probably didn't help)
- Other sites are simply doing it better (Flotrack)
Letsrun was my homepage for years but I've started visiting less and less -- and I'm definitely a happier person for it. Just looking now because I'm home and nostalgic, but it's true, the site isn't what it was.
Congrats brojos, you had a great run (pun intended)
Hah, you guys remember my comment on this page? It has some constructive criticism to Rojo, mostly about the search function which he called good, I disagreed.
What happend? It got deleted, no surprise.

The responses to the Hamilton threads have become something of a last straw.
Mommy playing Russian roulette with murder and disease by whoring with strangers; it's all a big joke or twisted female empowerment to the nihilistic, perverted Letsrun audience.
I am no better if I continue to visit this site.
Just letting the owners know that there is one freakish customer who is going to a differen store.
I agree, all these posts about the NRA, the fiscal cliff and now her. I cant believe some people support a girl whoring around L.A. and defend her. I mean damn this is a running website I just dont understand why this crap is even on here...
