Oh ho ho! Now I regret defending your school, sir/ma'am! I must disagree most strongly!

Has Coach Vanhoy begun coaching?
Whats the reaction been for the team??

I go to NU now, whoever mentioned the co-op program was basically right. You can either choose to do four years and one 6 month co-op or 5 years and three co-ops. Most students do the five year program to get a better resume.
Do students pay tuition for all 5 years? If so, doesn't this negatively affect NU's academic reputation?
No, you only pay tuition for 4 years. You actually get paid a salary when you’re working the co-op.

Also I'm the first to admit that there are a large amount of better schools in boston (BC, Havard) but I would argue that NU is just as good as BU. In a few years NU will be better then BU in overall rankings.
As someone else stated there are a few good runners but other than that, not too good.
NU has greatly improved it's standards in the last 20 years, so in that respect it has become a much more serious school. However, this is historically a commuter school and it has successfully become a national college as the demand for Boston schools is off the charts. By the way, BU was always a commuter school as well, before John Silber, but it also had a first rate Medical School and Law School, it developed and impressive school of Business and Communications and it's teachers are first rate. Does not mean it is not full of spoiled kids from LI and the Middle East, but it is an impressive place. Harvard, Tufts and MIT have always been serious places; BC is great but overrated. The next school to pop off the commuter charts and go national will be Suffolk U. and if they ever build any dorms, UMass Boston could easily be the next Northeastern.
Vanhoy is from UNC. Pete Watson was at UNC but now at UVA where Brian Fetzer is the head coach. Ericksen and fetzer worked together at Harvard.
So...Ericken called Fetz who calls Watson and Watson recommends Vanhoy. Vanhoy gets the job.
Wham. I am so good.
They take five years because Northeastern has a co-op program wherein students go back and forth between apprenticeships of sorts and classwork. Work experience before they graduate - not a bad thing.
BU was never a "commuter school" unless you are talking 50 years ago.
It's a national U with a "concrete campus" in Bos's Back Bay.

I had heard they had several kids from NE ready to sign FL guys (Green and Crawley) among them????

Huh?
Green committed to NU and then decommitted when the coach was fired.
It will be tough for Northeastern to contend in the region if they don't have any depth past the 3rd or 4th guy.
What is the scholarship situation right now at NU?
How many do they have? I can't imagine they have more than 2?
Jenkins (sub4) must be on a full ride. I find it hard to believe two FL finalists would commit there without a full ride, especially given the coaching situation.
Also, anyone know how many scholarships BU has for men?
BU is fully funded for both men and women.
Here's the deal. Sherman left. Renny left. Erickon's the new head coach. Ryan Vanhoy is the new distance coach. Northeastern students are 95% (possibly even higher) guaranteed jobs after they graduate. Co-op is an amazing program, where most students are offered jobs where they previously worked, right as they finish their co-op. This means, they could be as young as 19 or 20 years old and already have a job for the future. The school is not comparable to 'Cuse nor UM because of this.
As for Coach Vanhoy, he started coaching the distance men and women last week and they've already had some great workouts. It's difficult for any coach to hop into a program midway through the year and start recruiting, but he already jumped on that wagon and is doing the best he can to rebuild this distance program.
NU's distance program is clearly not one of the best in the country (right now) but with Jenkins, Doyle, Gallagher and Sollowin, they've got some great potential and will no doubt do great things under the coaching of Ryan Vanhoy.
