Total bullshit. How many hundred of American kids ran in D1, D2, D3 and JC national championships over the last two weeks? There is room for every decent American kid who wants to spend the time trying to develop. Protectionism (i.e. keep out the foreigners) has and always will lead to lower quality.

Nope. We're cutting the legs out from under ourselves. Every foreign runner is an American kid that didn't get to move on to the next level. We cut them off at HS never seeing what they could develop into as an adult runner.
The East African domination of distance running (and I mean complete) is one of the worst things thts happened to our sport. Sorry but it's not good to have nameless faceless Kenyans dominate.
The american public doesnt really care about distance running, they care even less when the Americans have a 1/1000 chance of even placing well.
You are wrong. The former African domination of distance runners has taught the rest to up their game rather than run away crying. The better the competition, the better the real runners will be. Of course, some, like you, will give up crying and run the other way. Farah, Rupp and Levins have risen to challenge this African domination. But remember, to be a good runner, you can't be a pu**y. You must challenge the competition rather than fear it.
Remember that the gold and silver in the Olympics 10,000 went to Britain and the US. The NCAA 5000 and 10,000 went to a Canadian. After Levins lost to Lalang in Cross country, he used that to challenge himself to defeat him on the track - which he did.
It's because you are spewing nonsense. I've been a DI coach and I can tell you that most professors have no idea how athletic departments are funded. Especially at a large university like Wisconsin with such a successful athletic department, the scholarships are much more likely than not funded by endowments set up with PRIVATELY raised dollars. Tax money is NOT used for athletic scholarships. This is even the case at most schools when it comes to academic scholarship. They are funded by endowments which are built through fundraising. If you've worked in a university at any level, you should understand this concept. At smaller DI schools, you may see schoalrships funded through student fees (athletics fees) but still not from tax dollars.
You clearly don't know how the athletic scholarships are funded at schools like Wisconsin and other DI schools, so when you spout off about taxpayers paying for the scholarship of a foreign student, you are spewing nonsense. You won't find these international students getting financial aid other than athletic or academic scholarships. If there is anybody who has the right to complain about their money paying for internationals recruits, it's those who give to the scholarship endowments at these universities. However, you likely won't find them complaining because they give this money to see their alma mater or favorite team WIN conference and national titles. That's what teams like Oklahoma State and Wisconsin are accomplishing.
There wouldn't be room for "foreign imported talent" if we had better developed talent here. You just don't like being reminded that we suck at developing our youth talent here.

Pretty sure all of OK State's athletic scholarship money comes from T Boone Pickens (with maybe a little other booster support) and not from OK taxpayers.

Wow, you couldn't be more wrong and yet you felt free to open up your ignorant piehole. Wetmore doesn't "accept foreign runners" because of his own personal bias. CU tennis and ski teams have plenty of foreign athletes, so there is clearly no restriction on extending athletic scholarships to foreigners at that school. Did you also really not know that athletic scholarships tend to have zero tax (state or federal) money support? You've clearly spent precious little time around any D1 athletic department or if you have then you paid no attention to anything that was going on around you. I could see why people working in the athletic department probably wouldn't want to say much of anything to someone like you.
