Chris Derrick to move to Portland: Schumacher or Salazar?

Probably Schumacher. A posting on German's Facebook page shows he's hanging out with German, Eliott Heath and Evan Jager.

I'm referring to WINS (top three) not ALSO RANS. And also include best improvements from also rans to top three finishers?

I would say Salazar with two golds, a silver and a fourth place finish at the Olympic games. They are both great coaches but AlSal has got the upper hand at this point.

There is that, but I'm also wondering about over time what their records are.

Like, has either had a long history of taking an ok runner and making them a great runner?

Galen and Mo are obvious guys for Al. But can Kara and Evan be scores for Schu?

I'm not good with finding this information.

You can give credit for Galen to Salazar since he has been with him for forever. I wouldnt' every say Galen was only "ok" but he has done all his improvement with him.

Mo was already damn good before Salazar, so he wouldn't fit in that catagory, but he did take him to the next level.

Kara was Salazars for years and ran all of her best stuff under him....so no idea what you mean...4:05/8:34/14:55/30:55/66:57( and Bronze in the 10k at the world champs, all under Salazar. That's not a not on Schumacher, just the facts in this case.

Jager has def come a long way under Schu. He was great in HS, but has continued to excel first in college then pro when he left to follow schu.

Neither Al or Schu would ever just get someone who is "ok" and turn them to great. That's not the kind of program they run.

Chris is too much of a good guy to go to the dark side.

(Thus, he'll go to Schumacher).

agreed! I don't think Derrick needs that much attention to detail...

Amy Yoder and Kara did as well. I'm not 100% sure on Mo Farah.

Derrick and German are done. They will play around next few years and then get a ouuwwie! They will fade away and their names will be lost to small stories about some new football star named Rick Derrick...and stories out of Germany! Yes the young guys coming up will make German and Chris their girlfriends. Neither will ever step on the OLYMPIC TRACK! Herd a coach that I admire a great deal remark between the two that "Jerry is the nicer of the two, but also too set in his ways and just concerned about putting as many of his guys onto the national team as he can ..... As for drugs, I think it safe to say that if Nike is supporting in any manner, both camps are pushing the boundaries as best they can.

It is fashionable to give Jerry a bye because he is seemingly "nicer" and doesn't demand the limelight but at the end of the day, particularly in this sport, medals trump everything.

So you're telling me Derrick, German, Teg, Solinsky, and Jager in the same camp? WOW

I'd much rather run for Alberto.

Jerry's a good coach, I guess, with a great record of success, but his huge level of secrecy frankly comes across as creepy. What's his problem? Does he really think he has some secret no one else can find out? Or is he concerned that people will realize eventually that a lot of the problems of his athletes, Tim Nelson and Simon Bairu especially (not to mention the women), have to do with his tendency to always overdo the training?

Success is one thing. But he comes off as either terribly paranoid or rather sketchy.
