I agree with Dennis. You think that running marathon pace during a mile or 1500m race is exciting? That is ludicrous. Dennis' point about walking the first half describes the position against sit and kick perfectly.
In a 5000m, a guy 12:50 guy allowing the race to go at 13:30 pace or slower, as was done at the OG, is an idiot. Why on earth, with that kind of talent and fitness, would you allow everyone up to and including the 13:30 guys have a chance at a medal?
Some of you talk like the 12:50 guys are significaintly superior to a 12: 56 guy! How many times have you run within 6 seconds of your 5k pr?
I loved the 2012 Oly 5k! I watch it over and over. And you anti kick folks act like anybody can run a 9:15 two mile and then close in 3:58 for he last mile with a 52.9 400m! I loved it.
If I can do a 12:50 5k I'm probably going to believe that I will be very dangerous coming off a relatively slow first half of the race. So why not sit and kick. I see no reason to think that my chances are better by going all out from the gun and hoping that I can out run runners who are targeting
me who are as good or better.
