I agree with him.

It kills me to see those wuss runners who can't lead a race and can only win by kicking it in the last part.

Like that one guy who sat on Rupp and then out kicked him for the American record and ran sub 27. Why would anyone run like that?

It's not macho shallow thinking. I watch races to see honest competition. NOT to see one guy sandbag it and jog behind everyone until the last lap.

He didn't out kick him, he ran away from him (Rupp)and not with a 100 or 200m final sprint. Newsflash, there's a difference. Go back and watch the race, maybe you will then be able to get your foot out of your mouth.

Ummm...that happens in most ALL distance races and it was his first 10,000. Give it a rest.

Solinsky sat on Rupp the whole 10,000m before kicking away with a final 400m in 56". He is full of crap. Trying to hold onto a legacy he wants to create, but many have forgotten him.

Why do people keep saying it was his first 10,000 like it means something. First it wasn't his first, he ran 8 or more during college cc and probably a few road 10k and workouts of this distance on track. Its not like saying it was a runnners first marathon.

About that race Solinksy was racing for the win and didn't care if it was fast, where Rupp main goal was to force a fast pace first.

I hate folks who show up for a race and turn it into a glorified tempo run.

How is outkicking people not an example of "honest competition"? Are they supposed to confirm with each other every lap that they're running as fast as they possibly can and promise not to keep anything in reserve for the last lap?

I'll never understand why so many have a problem with the sit and kick method. The object of the game is to be the first to cross the finish line. If one feels that the best strategy to achieve that is to sit and kick, why on earth would anyone have a problem with it?

Are people still drooling over that stupid Pre move from over a decade ago?

Hey learn to read. I said the word "sandbag". That is not a competition when someone is sandbagging and just shoulder riding the entire time.

Respect to people who can pull off a win "Pre Style."

However, a win is a win, no matter how it's run. *Cough* Olympic 5K *Cough*

How is outkicking someone in the last 100-200m different from sitting for 9200m of a 10k and then moving with 2 laps? By your logic, kicking the last 150m of a mile is not okay but sitting on someone for the first 25 miles of a marathon and then "running away" in the last mile is alright.

I can read just fine, thanks. I don't think there's such a thing as sandbagging in racing. I disapprove of people who sit on the ass of the leader who's doing all the work but, at the same time, if you're leading and don't like it, then do something about it. Push the pace to take the kick out of the other guy or recognize that he's fitter, faster, and you're toast.

Ummm, it was 91%.

By the way, Solinski has a lot better track record for leading that Rupp does, by a lot.

I really didnt understand the comment either....but the 10000 you all are talking about is one of my favorite races of all time until Rupp topped it. Still it was a great race. I like Sol and Galen....

bty: I would like to see more runners going for time and the hell with place, more time than not you will be happier if you give it your all instead of running smart. At the end of the day a top time (PR's) will get to the same place...a possible win or medal.

Among the dumber comments posted here recently.
