I saw an All-American/2012 Summer Olympian running on campus the other day with an ipod. Was it my duty as a Letsrunner to smugly call him a hobbyjogger and ask where his Garmin and CamelBak were?

I would ask what he was listening to. That could be the key to his fastynest.
What's so hobby joggerish about a garmin though??
Exactly....do my thumps count? Dang, and to think all these years I thought I was cool!
The cool runners actually don't care what you wear or use, just that you are out the door....
Thanks for making my day, cheers!

I don't think Joaquim Cruz ran with headphones.
Can you ID the runner?
So do Meb and Geb....

He would have buried you so fast that you wouldn't have had the chance to mumble a stupid question you tool. What does it matter what he does? He's a hell of a lot more successful than you'll ever be.
Hard to call head phones hobby jogging as lots of elites do it. Hell Ryan hall has a commercial where he does it. Not my thing but certainly not just for hobby joggers. Garmin's are for everybody, if you think you are tough because you don't use one you are only helping your competition. GPS's are perhaps the greatest invention to help train runners since the stop watch. Camel baks are for hobby joggers and perhaps marathon runners training on their own. Either way you are whats wrong with LR.
Of course headphones are for hobbyjoggers. Real runners just carry the radio on their shoulder.

He'll learn after the first time he gets mugged while wearing them.
Total hobby jogger. This is his second mention on this thread!
Shalane trains with an iPod. Only losers don't wear them for any reason other than they simply don't want to...
Yeah look at this loser hobby jogger with his ear phones what a dork!
I think the big issue is that it does pose a danger. The majority of runners I talk to say they can still hear their surroundings just fine, but then at the same time the majority of the runners I pass with headphones on are startled when they see me passing them. Apparently I must run like a ninja because they weren't able to hear me coming.

Him and Geb. And Rudisha.
If headphones are OK two of the most dominant runners to walk the earth in the past 20 years, I think they're OK for the 5th men on NCAA Division II teams.
German Fernandez wears earbuds and listens to his ipod on runs also.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
