I'm a freshmen at college at a D1 running school where the women's top 800m times are 2:20- sub. Running has meant so much to me in my life and not competing has left a huge hole. I was a cross country and track runner all throughout high school but after completing my last xc season I found out that I had multiple stress fracture, one of which required surgery, putting me out for the past 8 months. Unfortunately this injury came about right when I was "hitting my stride"- my senior track season my coaches had predicted at least a 2:20 800m after dropping 10 seconds in my previous track season to hit 2:30. I know that it is incredibly hard work to walk on to a D1 team, especially after coming off the type of injury that I did, but I am willing to try everything as long as I know it won't be completely in vain. I'm concerned that I just don't have a runner's body, being only 5'4.5" and having only an average leg length on top of that (see picture). When I hit my fastest 800m time I was at a weight of 127, which factored in with my height is a relatively high BMI for a runner. If I can get down to 110- 115lbs will I have a shot at 2:20-sub? Do you have any suggestions on what to do or are odds stacked too high against me?
