Penn State Mid-D crew will be the best in the country
Finnerty (WI) ran 3:38 (before the Trials) and Hatz at 3:58i, Mo Ahmed should make the 10,000 list if he can make the OG Final. Mudd ran pretty well at both 800 and 1500 (1:47/3:40). Reed Connor in the 1500 and 5000 (he got sick at NCAAs I think). Darling had 13:36i. And for the missing steeple, Brill had his 8:37 in a championship race.
Still, that these guys do not have their names at the tip of the tongue show how good the NCAA has gotten.
Oregon has a lot of young middle distance talent that got some good experience last year. I predict at least one of them breaks out this year. The proverbial "out of the woodwork" example.

On the women's side, Kayla Beattie of Iowa!
I second that. I saw she just ran 2nd place in a 5000. First time she has competed in a while in college.
I ran a couple of 5k's with her (well, technically, a bit behind her, lol) over this last summer and she was doing very well -- winning one overall and one 2nd place, but WAY faster than any other female. She was saying she had an injury... but I think it is healed now.
It said she ran red-shirted in this last collegiate event I mentioned, not sure what that means... anyone??
OK, I looked up red-shirt on Wikipedia -- about what I thought. Also looked up this gold-mine of info:

I truly think no one can match her in 1) mental drive and committment to be #1 and 2) natural ability -- it is hard to beat that combination! She was the valedictorian in Woodstock High School -- one of the best high-schools in the country. She has the whole package. I am thinking olympic material.
Andy Powell and Vin have a way with miler types. There is a stud amongst the troops right now. We just don't know who yet. Could be Alexander. Missed all CC and all indoors but ends up scoring at PAC-12's and making Regionals. Top frosh in the PAC-12 off no base. Nothing. Chad Noelle. Another possible stud. Also scored in the PAC 12 as a frosh. Regional finalist at 1500. Just in case you don't think scoring in the PAC-12 is any big deal, check out the results (top 3 were Lalang, Derrick and Dunbar and 8th was within a second of 3rd).
Give those Duck freshmen 2 another year and a stretch of good health coming off decent CC seasons and I see them as major players on the NCAA 1500 scene.
Andy Bayer was 4th in the trials 1500. I think he can win the 1500 and 5000 depending on how his season goes.
Nova: Williamsz and McEntee
Texas: Dohner, Lutz, Merber, Van Ackeren
I'm hoping Jake Hurysz runs well this year. He had a huge breakthrough last year and now that he had a summer under Wetmore he should be ready to make a name for himself.
I can see Pat Schellberg of UNC running something great this year
