Villanova is basically like a pretty good high school. Far, far below Princeton, Penn, Swarthmore, Haverford, Bryn Mawr. It would be an incredible waste of money to go ta a place like nova or rider. A better option is any decent state school, or bucknell.
I'd be less concerned about the better "academic" school and concentrate on which is the better fit for you. In a weekend you can visit Villanove, Swarthmore, Haverford, St Josephs, U Penn, Lehigh, Lafayette and Bucknell. (Half of these are within 5 miles of each other) I guarantee you you will have your own opinion of which is the best fit.
Ike low wrote:
So you put Bryn Mawr, Haverford in the same category as Penn? Now I know I can't trust your opinion.
Also, I definitely agree with the first reply on this post. I'd put the Ivies and a few other select schools in a top-tier section and put Villanova and Georgetown at either the bottom of that category or the top of the second tier.
From what I've heard Georgetown is known for it's international relations/poli sci type majors and the students studying those programs almost looks at themselves as elitists of sorts.
If you're interested in Business/Nursing/Engineering then I'd put Villanova ahead of Georgetown.
If you're just trying to pick people's opinions then I'd say it's a toss up.
Good, not great.
Carries about the same weight as saying you went to a good state school (but not great state school).
It's not a target school for major investment banking jobs (which I think is the best binary way to rank schools).
Villanova is the Harvard of the Philadelphia Suburbs.
How does Providence rank academically in the big east?
I attended Villanova and transferred to a well-ranked state school because finances were tight. I don't know how the national ranking systems work, like what factors they take into consideration, but from an undergrad perspective the academic programs were good. The number one thing I liked about it was every professor I had was a good teacher. I found at my next school that even though the professors had impressive resumes in their fields, many couldnt teach for sh*t. At Villanova, since the professors were so focused on the teaching aspect, I learned quite a lot.
Just my 2 cents. I'm sure other people have different opinions.

If you consider the Ivies, Duke and Stanford as tier 1, schools like UNC, UVA, G' Town and Nova would be tier 2. I would put Nova in the botton half of T1, which means it is very good school academically.
Bullshit. No way is Villi superior to UVA and G'town academically. Don't know where you're getting your facts from, but you need to reconsider.

I was surprised that Villanova is not included in the US News rankings as a National University but it is ranked #1 on the Regional Universities list in the North.
What schools would you compare it to academically?
It's long been considered the Harvard of the East.
Criminally Overrated.

And where exactly is your opinion coming from? Is it even fact based?

Apparently you've never heard of Goldman Sachs.

I've heard of'em. They went down the f*cking tubes in 2008.
They also recruit heavily at Villanova
Nova is standard. Even Stanford, USC, & Ivy's are a blessing since you don't have 2/3rds CJKIPE imports ruining the curve like at UCSD, UCLA, UCI, Caltech, and Berkeley.
I never noticed a difference in classes at Georgetown or Villanova. Of course I didn't attend any at either college.

Seriously though, Villanova is an excellent school that's only getting better.

At least that's what Al heard.
Excellent. Notch below Ivies
