he might be reinstated. I think the DQ is silly. This cannot
be compared to badminton players who try avoid certain opponents.

I hope he gets in. I don't care if he gets some ridiculous "doctor's note" (it's a BS rule and deserves to be beaten by a BS loophole). This is the Olympics, I want to see the best in the world compete fairly, I am tired of all the politics.
I know I was the first to point out how suspicious the algerian looked in the semi final, but he's kind of being thrown out without a trial here. i would hope the west holds itself to a higher standard than that.
I agree- well said!

~52.3 for makhloufi, 1:34 for the last 700
the time itself doesn't seem all that outrageous, off of a super slow pace like that, just the way he did it, running away from that caliber of a field, and with his lack of credentials it seems more sketchy
Agreed. His closing splits are not that great for a 3:42 race. Just looked at video and got these splits:
1:49.8 last 800
1:34.7 last 700
couldn't see the start line at the bell on the video I saw
39.0 last 300
26.4 last 200
13.5 last 100m
Compare to EL G's same splits in Athens '04 in a much faster 3:34.2
1:46.9 last 800
1:32.4 last 700
39.0 last 300 (same as Makhloufi)
26.3 last 200
13.3 last 100
Or indeed Coe's faster 3:38.4 in Moscow
1:48.5 last 800
1:33.1 last 700
38.6 last 300
25.0 last 200
12.1 last 100
As you can see, Makkhloufi's finish was not that impressive statistically. It just looked much better because those around him were trying to conserve energy and not "racing" him but just wanting to qualify.
I think it's wrong that he should be dq'd from the 1500 on the grounds that he didn't try in the 800 heat. I'm fairly sure there is more to it and probably pressure from somewhere to get him out of the final in case there is a scandal after the race.
