really? 200 miles in one week? for an 800/1500?

is this you?
if so, I'd focus on the 5k/8k. try doing 20x200 with shorter rest. or doing 20x400 alternating 30-32 second 200s with 40-50 second 200s. something continuous like that.
or 20x400 at 5k pace with only 100 meter rest.
Alright guys. I might do the predictor workouts in the weeks coming up. Thanks for the advice. And the 200 mile week, I didn't do that specifically training for anything. Just did it to to see if I could. And the only workout I did that week was 5x300.

Yep thats me. But I can't really race anything over a mile anymore without getting loss of coordination in my leg. So I'm focusing on the 1500/mile. And I've done 20x400 with 200 meter jog in 64 average last year. But I have no idea what shape I'm in because I redshirted last track season and didnt race. I was sort of good in the 8k my freshman year running 25:41 and 25:35, but after that I got "loss of coordination in leg"

You did the hard 600 in 1:28 recently, right?
Yep. Did the "time trial" 600 on Wednesday and did this workout on Sunday. Monday was 12 200s at about the same pace as the 40 x 200 workout and the same recovery.
Why don't you just race? Is there some reason you need to post "what can I run?" threads all the time?
we need to just stop replying to this guy. he posts idiotic training threads, asking for advice, then refuses to listen to any advice given. huge waste of time. just let him burn himself out.
seconded.

There aren't any races other than road 5ks in the summer where I'm at.

I'm not asking for advice. But I am going to run the "predictor" workouts that were discussed in this thread. Probably next week because my training partner wants another shot at breaking 1:30 for 600. He ran 1:31.xx. So I'll do a 600 time trial again, and then 45-60 second rest, and then another 200. Apparently that will give me a good estimated 800 time. I'll do 10x400 with 1 min rest maybe the week after.
maybe you just suck, ian
I dont know what you can run, but that sounds like a terribly boring workout. How long were you out there on the track?

+1. Just get your training partner to pace you through 500 and run the last 300 by yourself. Really not that difficult.
There are some runners who train to race. And there are others that train to train. You fall into the latter category my friend. If you want to brag about crazy workouts and high mileage weeks instead of actual races, then go ahead. But when people see your race times they'll know you're not a hard nosed competitor, just someone who can't take the pressure of races and does dumb workouts like 40x200.

The 800 is 6 seconds faster than my pr, and the 1500 is 3 seconds slower.
The slower times are to account for the ridiculous workout, which you have designed to make yourself slower.
Your average pace of running was probably within a second or 2 of your 400 pr. 8K of nearly 400pace in one day is more than extreme. Have you recovered yet?

About 2 hours. Because the 200s were about 30 seconds, and then add 2:30 for rest. 3 minutes x 40 = 2 hours. It was less boring than an easy 10 miler. Which I don't find boring either. I don't get bored while running. lol

Because I don't think he can front run a 500 at even 2:00 800 pace right now. Why do you say I can't take the pressure of races? Because I redshirted a year and now am wondering what shape I'm in? And I don't think it was a dumb workout.

Thats true. My 400 pr is 55.74 at the end of a 10x400 workout with a running start. But I might be faster now. And I'm fully recovered. Quads were a little sore the day after the workout(yesterday) though.
I looked at this and saw 20 minutes of running and 100 minutes of resting. 5 to 1 ratio of rest to run. A ratio like this would fall in training paces around 600 meter speed.
I thought the comment on a team doing 30x200 and then them being very good 400 and 800 runners seemed very appropriate. Lots of training in a range a sprints coach might call extensive tempo.

1. Try for goodness sake. No point in asking these questions if you don't get your arse on the track and run a freakin 800.
2. Because you obviously don't race enough. Just b/c you redshirted does not mean you can't race.
3. And yes, it was a dumb workout.

1. Running a time trial and running a race is totally different for me. And I am supposed to do a 800 soon. After me and my training partner do a 700 under 1:45. I did the 500 in 1:13.xx about 2 weeks before I tried the 600.
2. I would have raced the season that I redshirted, but I didnt think it was worth it to drive for 2 hours to run a race, when I could just run on my own. It's not like I could just hop on the team van and go with them.
3. I recall Zatopek doing a workout like this. Would you call him stupid? Well even if he is stupid, and I am stupid. Oh well. The workout is over.
