Including the Oly Trials 10k last night, there are now 7 college runners who have broken 28 minutes this season:
Cam Levins
Steven Sambu
Chris Derrick
Diego Estrada
Mo Ahmed
Luke Puskedra
Hassan Mead
I'm quite sure that's a record.
Four of the above are US citizens.
Aaron Braun is only a year removed from college.
With Rupp, Teg and Ritz all still young enough to be competing thru Rio, and with Solinsky back, the 5k through marathon looks really exciting for the US for the next 4 years and beyond.
The great FootLocker finals class of 2007, now with some hindsight and perspective, have really lived up to their lofty expectations with Derrick and Puskedra performing so well last evening and Fernandez and Hill making the Trials and racing soon.
Mentioning Levins . . . would he have been able to bridge the gap to the top-3 last night when they started pulling away at the 8k mark? And, had a kick to stay with or near/Rupp? Guess we'll find out soon enough . . .
