I agree, some call it guts, most of us call it stupidity. But she does go to Cal so its about right! ha!
Gutsy maybe, but "Awesome" is reserved for the runner who got second.
Maybe you're the one who's not too bright. Deb needed to finish in the top 3 and the A standard to go to the Olympic Games. In this race, she had to roll the dice.
